    Abstract: A percussion instrument that is formed of a housing, a compressible foam material connected to the housing, an electronic pick-up embedded within said compressible foam material and a compression plate. The housing includes a front opening and a cavity and a rear portion of the compressible foam material extends through the front opening of the housing and into the cavity of the housing. The electronic pick-up is spaced from the outer surface of the compressible foam material. The compression plate is positioned on the front face of the compressible foam material and is spaced from an outer edge of the front face.

    Abstract: A portable system for drumming is provided that simulates a full drum kit. In one implementation, a system is provided that can digitally simulate a full drum kit without the need for actual drums. The system can include electronic drumsticks that can transmit digitally sampled drum sounds (e.g., snare, kick drum, high-tom, low-tom, cymbal) wirelessly to a receiver. The receiver can connect to one or more outputs, such as headphones or a stereo system. The receiver may also be configured to mix audio signals produced by the drumsticks with other audio inputs such as an MP3 player to permit a user to drum along with prerecorded music.

    Abstract: An electronic percussion instrument generates, in accordance with a trigger signal output from a pad source, a musical performance tone of a tone color assigned to the pad source. The electronic percussion instrument includes a program memory for storing a control program and a CPU for controlling operation of the electronic percussion instrument in accordance with the control program stored in the program memory. A storage device is also provided for storing a plurality of trigger data sets each of which includes at least one sensitivity setting parameter for setting sensitivity to the trigger signal, and a plurality of drum kits each of which includes pad setting data for setting the tone color assigned to the at least one pad source and link data for designating one of the plurality of trigger data sets. A setting operation input unit is provided for selecting a drum kit from among the plurality of drum kits. The CPU is coupled to the storage device and the setting operation input unit and operative under the control program for setting the sensitivity to the trigger signal on the basis of the at least one sensitivity setting parameter included in the trigger data set designated by the link data included in the drum kit selected by the setting operation input unit.

A sound modulator (26) is used for modulating tones of the electronic sounds from the augmented microphones without any digital conversion. A reproducer (34) is used for reproducing the output sounds from the sound modulator (26). Because the processes of digitally converting, transferring signals by optical couplers, and selecting recorded sounds for reproducing are eliminated, the reproduced sounds can represent subtle techniques of the performer by directly using the original sounds generated when the first original sound generators (100) are beaten.

    Abstract: An electronic percussion synthesizer is disclosed which includes a plurality of pressure transducers, each representing a different percussive musical instrument.
