Abstract:
An exemplary power supply system for a direct-current drive includes a power converter for at least one direction-dependent two-quadrant operating mode, at least one associated pulse-based actuation device, an input-side connection and an output-side connection for the power converter, and at least one mechanical interruption device for the input-side connection and/or the output-side connection. The power supply system is provided to continually provide values of a current flowing on the output-side during operation by receiving an STO (safe torque off) signal, immediate changeover of the power converter operating mode into the inverter limitation if an STO signal is received, interrupting a feed of actuation power through the actuation device into the power converter, and supplying an interruption signal to the at least one mechanical interruption device once a second subsequent time interval has elapsed and the current flowing on the output side has not decayed below a safety-critical limit value.
Abstract:
The present invention advantageously provides a motorized roller shade that includes a shade tube, a motor/controller unit and a power supply unit. The motor/controller unit is disposed within the shade tube, and includes a bearing, rotatably coupled to a support shaft, and a DC gear motor. The output shaft of the DC gear motor is coupled to the support shaft such that the output shaft and the support shaft do not rotate when the support shaft is attached to the mounting bracket.
Abstract:
During displacement of an actuating element to a target position, a brushless direct-current motor is driven by a driving commutation pattern derived from rotor position signals. After the target position is reached the brushless direct-current motor is transferred to a holding mode in which it is driven by a commutation pattern providing a required holding torque. In the holding mode the holding current necessary for providing the required holding torque is minimized by an iterative holding current reduction method to a holding current value guaranteeing the required holding torque.
Abstract:
A motor drive device has a spindle motor driver adapted to receive electric power from a power supply line to drive a spindle motor; an isolation switch adapted to connect and disconnect an application terminal of a power supply voltage to and from the power supply line, and a current monitor adapted to monitor a first current flowing into the isolation switch. The current monitor includes a mirror switch arranged to connect a first terminal of the mirror switch to the application terminal of the power supply voltage and adapted to be turned on and off by the same control signal as the isolation switch; a bias generator adapted to bias a second terminal of the mirror switch to the same voltage as the power supply line; a resistor which converts a second current flowing into the mirror switch into a first voltage; and a current limit signal generator adapted to compare at least one of the first voltage, a second voltage obtained by level-shifting the first voltage, and a third voltage obtained by dividing the first voltage with a predetermined threshold voltage to generate a current limit signal.

A method is provided for indicating state of charge of a battery being charged by a charger. The method includes: supplying a charging current from a battery charger to a battery pack; determining voltage of battery cells residing in the battery pack; and illuminating a visual indicator on the battery charger to indicate state of charge of the battery pack, where brightness of the visual indicator correlates to the voltage of the battery cells in the battery pack.

Abstract:
Embodiments of methods of controlling a motor for driving a load are disclosed herein. Exemplary methods include providing energy to a motor, sensing a parameter indicative of current. Determining the end of an inrush current and a start point that is after the inrush current and that is at about the beginning of a main current draw. Determining an end point at about the end of the main current draw. Continuing to provide energy to the motor for a time period that is a function of the time from the start point to the end point and de-energizing the motor.

A method is provided for identifying a battery pack that is operably coupled to a battery charger. The method comprises: measuring voltage at a plurality of designated terminals of a first battery pack while the battery pack is coupled to the battery charger; determining how many of the designated terminals are connected to a reference voltage, such as battery positive; and identifying an attribute of the battery pack based on how many of the designated terminals are connected to the reference voltage.
Abstract:
An electrical machine having a stator and a rotor. The stator includes a core and a plurality of windings disposed on the core in a multiple-phase arrangement. The rotor is disposed adjacent to the stator to interact with the stator. A method of operating the motor includes applying a pulsed voltage differential to first and second terminals of the windings resulting in movement of the rotor; monitoring the back electromotive force (BEMF) of the windings to sense rotor movement; after the applying and monitoring steps, monitoring the BEMF of the windings to determine whether the rotor is rotating in a desired direction, and electrically commutating the motor when the rotor is rotating in the desired direction and zero or more other conditions exist.
