Abstract:
A deformable member can be used in a well tool for use in downhole oil/gas wells. In one embodiment, a deformable member (46) is described which is deformable between undeformed and deformed positions, and comprises a generally hollow cylindrical body (48) defining a wall (50). The wall (50) includes three circumferential lines of weakness in the form of grooves, with two grooves (52, 54) provided in an outer surface (56) of the member wall (50), and the other groove (58) provided in an inner surface (60). The member (46) is deformed outwardly by folding about the lines of weakness (52, 54, 56) and is used in particular to obtain sealing contact with a tube in which the member (46) is located.
Abstract:
A pre-beading apparatus for fashioning a cylindrical includes a housing have a work surface and an aperture formed in the work surface, where the aperture is capable of accommodating the cylindrical workpiece. A rotatable head assembly is concentrically aligned with the aperture, and includes a bead wheel and a cut wheel disposed on opposing distal ends of the rotatable head assembly. A gripper assembly is disposed within the housing and includes a securing means that extends into the cylindrical workpiece and permits selective movement of the cylindrical workpiece in an axial direction.
Abstract:
This invention provides a forming method capable of forming tapered through holes at once with a single pressing operation. A hole is formed in a work with a piercing punch 1 mounted on a press by using a small-diameter punching portion 1a formed on the distal end of the punch 1. A hole 11 formed at this time has a section with an open lower end portion by pressing. By using this hole 11 as a guide, a tapering portion 1b having a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of this hole and a tapered surface T forms a tapered surface on the inner surface of the hole 11 in accordance with plastic working. A "burr 3a" is formed on the edge of the hole 11 by this plastic working. Formation of this "burr 3a" is prevented with a pressure portion 1c formed on the piercing punch 1. When the above process is performed in a single pressing operation, a plurality of tapered through holes can be formed easily.
Abstract:
A filling material such as a fatty acid is filled into a metallic pipe in a molten state. The metallic pipe is then bent at a room temperature in a condition in which the filling material is solidified. After the bending work has been finished, the filling material is melted and discharged out of the pipe. The filling material may be a mixture of a fatty acid and a powdery additive.
Abstract:
A method is provided for forming threadings in a bushing and includes (a) providing a die; (b) extruding a tubular bushing made of metallic material into the die; (c) providing a punch member to punch into the bushing to form a first threading therein; (d) pressing down the bushing along the die and again providing the puncher member to punch into the bushing to form a second threading therein; and (e) repeating the step (d) until a plurality of predetermined threadings are formed in the bushing.
Abstract:
A method of fabricating elbow conduit including constructing a conduit development having a set of sequential segments, each segment having a lateral axis parallel to corresponding lateral axes of the other segments and a longitudinal axis skewed at least in part with respect to the lateral axis and having the same orientation as the corresponding longitudinal axes of the other segments in the set. The segments are joined end-to-end and the dimensions of the joined segments are transferred to a continuous length of material to generate a continuous blank havng periodically varying opposing boundaries. At least one outer alignment mark is defined on each segments of the blank to establish an outer ridge line on the outside circumference of the elbow and at least one inner alignment mark is defined on each segment to establish an inner ridge line on the inner circumference of the elbow. The method further includes helically winding the continuous blank to align the inner and outer alignment marks and join the abutting boundaries to form an elbow conduit. Helically wound elbow conduits formed from a continuous blank having curvilinear or rectilinear opposing boundaries are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Tube forming apparatus for forming a tubular part having an enlarged diameter end section at one end with an adjacent short radius bend is disclosed. A straight length of tubing is magnetically positioned between die members and fixedly clamped with opposite ends of the tube projecting from opposite ends of the die. One end of the clamped tube is then enlarged to form the enlarged end section. A magnetic transfer device is engage with the other end of the clamped tubing and, with the die opened, the tube is transferred to a second position between the die members which are closed to clamp the enlarged end section only with the remainder of the tubing projecting from the die. A tightly fitting plug member is seated in the interior of the clamped end section and a bending member the bends the projecting end of the tubing against an anvil formed on one of the die members.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a tube bend of a metal comprises positioning a base ring in the range of the welding device, using the welding device to deposit a first section of metal on the ring, moving the ring and the welding device through an arc relatively to each other by substantially the thickness of the first section of metal and thereafter depositing a subsequent section over the first section and repeating the moving and the depositing until the desired section thickness is formed into a wall. The device includes means for mounting a plate for pivotal movement and a base ring mounted on the plate for movement therewith below a welding device arranged so that the welding device and the plate remove relatively through an arcuate path so that a series of sections of metal may be built up into a tube bend wall. The welding device advantageously includes an electrode feeder and the apparatus preferably includes a welding device to provide a plating along the side of the wall section which is built up.
