    Abstract: A package turning device wherein a package is supported on a series of carriers which are free to slide from side-to-side on rods carried by endless chains on each side of a conveyor. The turning action is provided by a switching mechanism whereby the front portion of the carton is conveyed in one direction by a series of carriers while the rear portion of the package is supported on carriers which are switched to a different direction, so that as the package travels it is turned about 90* to its previous orientation. In a preferred embodiment of the device, two lanes are provided so that a series of packages in single file are divided into two files with the packages turned at 90* to their former orientation.

    Abstract: A feeding apparatus for propelling blocks, such as logs, from a moving conveyor or a stationary rack loaded with such logs. A single spike roll or a pair of spike rolls are moved against a log momentarily to flick the log in the direction of roll rotation. The momentary frictional engagement of the spiked roll against the top of the log is greater than the sliding friction of the log against the conveyor or the logs therebelow, so as to separate the log from its support.

    Abstract: A transfer device that is composed of a mobile frame that spans a first conveyor. The frame is movable in a direction transverse to the first conveyor. A load lifting means is vertically movable within said frame from a position straddling the first conveyor to a position above the first conveyor. The lifting means being capable of engaging a load that has accumulated on the first conveyor as it moves from its straddling position to a position above the first conveyor. The frame moves the load transversely to the first conveyor and the lifting means is then lowered to deposit the load on a second conveyor adjacent and parallel to the first conveyor.
