Abstract: A teleoperated manipulator system includes a manipulator assembly and a tool actuation assembly coupled to the manipulator assembly. The tool actuation assembly inserts a tool, such as a surgical instrument, along an insertion axis and also rotates the tool around the insertion axis. The manipulator assembly includes an arm that rotates with reference to a mounting base to rotate the tool around a yaw axis that intersects the insertion axis. A distal portion of the arm defines an arcuate pitch arc, and a center of the pitch arc is coincident with the intersection of the insertion axis and the yaw axis. The tool actuation assembly is driven along the pitch arc to pitch the tool. The manipulator system is optionally a telesurgical system, and the tool is optionally a therapeutic, diagnostic, or imaging surgical instrument.

Abstract: A medical system may comprise a display device and a processor. The processor may be configured to perform operations that include receiving a notification of a mobile device in an environment with the display device. The mobile device is separate from the display device. The operations may also include modifying a display on the display device in response to the notification, including censoring selected information in the modified display. The operations may also include receiving an end signal after the mobile device has generated an image of the modified display, and in response to receiving the end signal, restoring the display on the display device. The selected information is uncensored in the restored display.

Abstract: Implementations relate to control switch position sensing across a rotational joint. In some implementations, a control input device includes a base member and a roll member rotatable about a central axis with respect to the base member in a roll degree of freedom. A switch contact portion is rotatable with the roll member and moveable to multiple positions in a switch degree of freedom. A first sensor element is coupled to and moveable with the switch contact portion and can be a passive element. A base sensor element is coupled to the base member and configured to sense a proximity of the first sensor element to the base sensor element, and to output a signal indicative of a current position of the switch contact portion in the switch degree of freedom independently of a rotational orientation of the roll member in the roll degree of freedom.

Abstract: A medical device comprises an elongate sheath comprising a rigid distal portion and a flexible proximal portion and defining a first lumen. The medical device further comprises an elongate instrument that fits within the lumen. The elongate instrument comprises a flexible proximal section and a rigid distal section. The rigid distal portion of the sheath is at least as long as the rigid distal section of the instrument. In a non-extended condition of the instrument, the distal section of the instrument is entirely within the distal portion of the sheath. In an extended condition of the instrument when the instrument is distally extended within the lumen of the sheath, at least a portion of the distal section of the instrument is outside of the distal portion of the sheath and a portion of the proximal section of the instrument is within the distal portion of the sheath.

Abstract: A method performed by a computing system comprises receiving a collected set of spatial information for a distal portion of an instrument at a plurality of locations within a set of anatomic passageways and receiving a set of position information for a reference portion of the instrument when the distal portion of the instrument is at each of the plurality of locations.
