摘要: A method and system is provided to tie role-driven gaming purchases to executable transactions during a game so that on-line or related gaming systems create economic value inside the game itself. Players may control characters within a game which uses money to exchange goods or services to reach a goal, accomplish a task, or succeed in an event. The invention also provides for a participant to enter a game as a service provider to other players wherein the player receives compensation for the service. The service may be to provide aid in the form of a character or to provide educational services, for example. Accounts may be created to accumulate winnings or earnings as games are played.

摘要: The present invention provides a method and system to alert the recipient of an electronic message of some action that is required from the recipient. The invention also provides a method to alert the sender of the electronic message of the completion of the action required in the original electronic mail message. In the method of the present invention, the originator or recipient of an electronic mail message can choose to designate the message as one that requires an action by the message recipient. The recipient will notice the ‘Action Required’ icon and will be alerted to the fact that an action is required with this message. At the completion of the action, the sender of the original message will receive a notification that the requested action has been taken by the recipient.

摘要: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program are provided for dynamically routing traffic routs based on traffic reports. Utilizing current in-car navigation systems, a new implementation of that system can be developed where alternate routes can be plotted around varying traffic events. By receiving radio or Radio Frequency (RF) communications regarding current traffic conditions, the in-car navigation system can be modified to plot alternate routes. Also, the in-car navigation systems could utilize computer memory to develop histories of events so that reoccurring traffic events such as rush hour conditions can be avoided.

摘要: An apparatus and method for facilitating communication through a messaging system by identifying times when a user of the system is most likely to be available for a messaging session. The apparatus comprises an event monitor, a database, a usage processor, and a usage indicator. The event monitor detects messaging system events and records information about these events in the database. The usage processor retrieves the recorded information from the database and uses the information to compiles statistical usage data for a given user. The usage indicator then displays the statistical usage data in a summary format to an end user. In the preferred embodiment, the event monitor, usage processor, and usage indicators are all implemented as computer instructions. These three components may be executed independently of each other, or they may be integrated into a single computer program. Similarly, each component may operate independently or be integrated into an existing messaging system.

摘要: The invention provides a method, apparatus and system for reducing power consumption involving data storage devices. One embodiment involves a process for storing data in a first memory, and in response to the first memory exceeding a first threshold, migrating the data from the first memory to a second memory. In response to the second memory exceeding a second threshold, the process then involves migrating the data from the second memory to the third memory, wherein the second memory is sized and configured to store data targeted for the third memory to intelligently maintain a portion of the third memory in an inactive state.

摘要: A job is submitted into a first selection of resources in a grid environment from among a hierarchy of discrete sets of resources accessible in the grid environment. Discrete sets of resources may include locally accessible resources, enterprise accessible resources, capacity on demand resources, and grid resources. The performance of the first selection of resources is monitored and compared with a required performance level for the job. If the required performance level is not met, then the discrete sets of resources are queried for available resources to meet the required performance level in an order designated by said hierarchy. Available resources in a next discrete set of resource from the hierarchy of discrete sets of resources are added to a virtual organization of resources handling the job within the grid environment.

摘要: A method, system, and program for automatically distributing a bid request for a grid job to multiple grid providers and analyzing responses to select a winning grid provider are provided. A user at a grid client enters at least one bid criteria for a particular grid job intended for submission to an external grid environment. The grid client automatically selects at least one grid provider for the external grid environment to query for availability to process the particular grid job to meet the criteria for the particular grid job. Then, the grid client automatically distributes the criteria in a bid request for the particular grid job to the selected grid providers. The grid client stores bid responses received from the grid providers, and responsive to reaching a deadline for return of responses for the bid request, the grid client selects a winning bid response from the particular grid job from among the received responses. Then, the grid client automatically distributes the particular grid job from the grid client system to the grid provider submitting the winning bid response.
