    摘要: A fluid dispensing machine, such as a peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis machine, includes a dispenser or cassette that pumps a medical fluid for dialysis or other treatments for patients. The machine includes and uses an autoconnect device for connecting containers of liquid, such as bags of dialysis fluid or medication fluids, to the machine, while maintaining the sterility of the connection. The autoconnect device removes the cap from the fluid bag and pierces a sealing membrane on tubing from the bag. This makes it easier for patients to receive treatment, especially home treatment. The cassettes preferably have tubing ports with integral spikes for piercing the membrane on tubing from bags of liquids. The ports may be staggered for sequential engagement with the spikes. Other embodiments are useful for dispensing other liquids from other types of dispensing or pumping machines.

    摘要: A portable, flexible peritoneal dialysis system is disclosed. The system includes a flexible harness, such as canvas or cloth, to mount a stiff housing with a heater for holding and heating fresh dialysis fluid. The harness includes straps or other suspending devices for holding a second, flexible housing for a drain bag for holding sent dialysis fluid. The upper portion of the system includes a hook and a load cell for suspending the remaining portions. The load cell is used to measure the weight of the apparatus. By keeping track of the weight and the changes, the quantity of fluid removed from the patient, spent dialysate, is tracked, as is fresh dialysate infused into the patient. An electronics or control portion controls heating of the fresh dialysate, and operation of pumps and valves for moving the dialysate. This portion also includes alarms and communications equipment.

    摘要: A method for increasing the recovery of crude oil from a reservoir comprising at least one oil-bearing porous subterranean formation having a permeability of greater than 10 millidarcies wherein (a) crude oil and connate water are present within the pore space of the formation rock, and (b) the crude oil that is present in the formation has an American Petroleum Institute (API) gravity of less than 30°, a viscosity under reservoir conditions of greater than 1 centipoise, and undissolved solids suspended therein, the method comprising: (A) injecting an injection water into the formation wherein the injection water has undissolved solids suspended therein, a total dissolved solids content (TDS) of 30,000 ppm or less, and a ratio of the total multivalent cation content of the injection water to the total multivalent cation content of the connate water of less than 0.9; and (B) producing within the hydrocarbon-bearing formation an emulsion comprising a discontinuous aqueous phase and a continuous oil phase (hereinafter “water-in-oil” emulsion) wherein the total amount of undissolved solids suspended in the injection water and of undissolved solids suspended in the crude oil is sufficient for the emulsion to have an undissolved suspended solids content of at least 0.05% by weight (0.5 kg/m3) of emulsion.
