    Abstract: An atmospheric moisture harvesting system, in which water vapor is separated from the air using a liquid desiccant subsystem. The moisture charged liquid desiccant enters a desorber and condensation system, where the moisture is extracted. Cooling and condensation are performed on the extracted water vapor only, thereby saving the energy for cooling air containing the water vapor, as is done in direct cooling systems. The system thus operates as a single stage vapor separation system since the vapor concentration remains in the liquid desiccant which is circulated to the separation and condensation subsystems without air laden with the moisture. Low grade or solar heat can be used as the energy source for the vapor desorption. A heat exchanger utilizes unwanted heat from regenerated desiccant to heat up charged desiccant entering the regenerating stage. The system has substantial energy savings over prior art systems using direct cooling of air.

    Abstract: A device for fixing in a stoma for collection of excrement, comprising a catheter, a balloon at the distal end of the device, and manual rotatable pump at the proximal end of the device. The pump has a lid that is rotatable in two directions, and the lid is attached to a paddle that moves through an annular air chamber. Rotation of the lid in one direction causes air to flow down a tube and inflate the balloon, allowing the device to be secured in place, while rotation of the lid in the opposite direction causes air to be drawn up the air tube and deflates the balloon. The device further comprises an anti-drop cup that unfolds toward the distal end of the device as the device is removed from the stoma and is adapted to collect any leakage from the stoma during removal of the device.

    Abstract: Single bulk unimorph piezoelectric elements, with interdigitated electrodes aligned obliquely relative to the direction perpendicular to the axis of the element, such that a torsional response is induced into the element. When such elements are used as a beam structure, with angularly oriented electrodes on both opposite surfaces of the beam, and with their orientations at mutually opposite angles, motion ranging from pure torsional rotation to pure bending can be obtained, depending on the comparative level and polarity of the voltages applied to each of the two electrode sets. If such elements are used as the spiral support arms of a central platform, a large displacement of the stage can be achieved. Due to the oblique orientation of the IDE's, the piezoelectric transduction induces torsional deformation in the spirals, and this torsion is converted by the spiral arms to a parallel out-of-plane platform motion.
