摘要： A preconnectorized outdoor cable streamlines the deployment of optical waveguides into the last mile of an optical network. The preconnectorized outdoor cable includes a cable and at least one plug connector. The plug connector is attached to a first end of the cable, thereby connectorizing at least one optical waveguide. The cable has at least one optical waveguide, at least one tensile element, and a cable jacket. Various cable designs such as figure-eight or flat cables may be used with the plug connector. In preferred embodiments, the plug connector includes a crimp assembly having a crimp housing and a crimp band. The crimp housing has two half-shells being held together by the crimp band for securing the at least one tensile element. When fully assembled, the crimp housing fits into a shroud of the preconnectorized cable. The shroud aides in mating the preconnectorized cable with a complimentary receptacle.

摘要： A disk can store data from two different operating systems, particularly DOS and MAC OS formats. The initial sector on the disk, sector zero, is divided between the operating systems, allowing two sector signatures. As a result, DOS recognizes the disk as valid and the MAC OS can support a driver on the disk. According to another aspect of the invention, the DOS portion of the dual-format disk is reclaimed by having a software program start its execution on the dual-format disk then switch its execution to another storage device. As a result, the program can dismount the dual-format disk and safely reclaim it for use on the MAC OS.

摘要： A disk drive power manager that compares energy usage with a predetermined profile to select one of several reduced-power operating modes. An energy usage register is updated at regular intervals according to the energy used during each time interval. An attenuated average energy usage value is obtained by attenuating the energy usage measures over time and integrating the results. The average energy level is compared with several predetermined energy threshold profiles to select a full- or reduced-power operating mode. Operating mode selection automatically adapts to the usage pattern to optimally balance power consumption with operational accessibility.

摘要： An integral combination magnetic transducer and suspension assembly suitable for use in both contact recording and in winchester-type applications is described. A generally rectangular elongate flat suspension member includes a ring-type inductive read/write transducer formed integrally with the suspension member and is embedded in one end of the suspension member. The ring-type inductive transducer is suitable for horizontal recording applications. The transducer magnetic poletips and magnetic gap are formed and positioned such that the poletips and gap are essentially co-planar with the air bearing surface of a slider-shaped protrusion extending from the lower surface of the end of the suspension member adjacent a moving media during operation. The air bearing surface presented to the disk has most of its area covered with a wear layer to minimize wear of the slider surface and poletips.

摘要： An actuator for a magnetic read/write head carried by a linear motor has its stator located between a pair of disks within a stack of magnetic recording disks. The stator comprises an array of reversed polarity magnets (preferably permanent) in a linear array. A pair of flat coils are the drive elements of the armature of the motor with the coils arranged in side-by-side relationship for bridging from magnet to magnet in the stator. Thus the armature will not be stalled between magnets. The actuator is controlled by an electronic control system for selecting any position precisely, rather than in steps as in a stepping motor. A microprocessor can be used to adjust control of the direction of motion of the actuator based upon feedback signals.
