Abstract:
A method and apparatus for encoding transactions for goods and services using an e-receipt is provided. A consumer and a merchant conduct a commercial transaction using a distributed data processing system. An electronic receipt is recorded on a removable storage medium at a first data processing system. The electronic receipt contains data concerning the commercial transaction. The removable storage medium is then read at a second data processing system. After validating the electronic receipt, another commercial transaction or another stage of the original commercial transaction may be performed. The electronic receipt may be validated for a warranty claim on goods or services subject to the purchase transaction, and the removable storage medium may be an optical card or a smart card, either of which is able to store thousands of e-receipts and other electronic documents related to a commercial transaction, with the integrity of each guaranteed through digital signature, digital certificate, etc.
Abstract:
An e-mail server is configured so that when an e-mail having an attachment is received at the server, a web-based URL is included in the e-mail to identify a fulfillment site at which a handler (e.g., a plug-in) for the attachment may be obtained. The e-mail is delivered to a client machine. When the user of the machine selects the attachment to open, the e-mail application checks to determine if there is a registered handler in the client machine to handle the attachment. If there is no installed attachment handler (or if the handler is not available), the e-mail application automatically contacts the fulfillment site by opening a browser (or other viewer) to the URL that was included with the e-mail. When the user enters the required data, the fulfillment site sends the attachment handler. Upon receipt, the plug-in self-installs and opens the attachment in a seamless manner.
Abstract:
The present invention creates a method, apparatus and system by which a telephone unit volume control provides instantaneous coupling to and controlling of a connected telephone unit's microphone gain and noise cancellation circuitry. With this invention, an increase in the volume control on the first unit, will result in an automatic adjustment of the second unit's microphone gain control. This microphone gain adjustment is an amount corresponding to the adjustment of the volume of the first unit. The noise cancellation circuitry on the second unit is adjusted to filter more of the background noise before transmission instead of after the receipt of the signal at the destination telephone.
Abstract:
A system, method, and computer program product are designed to manage web content displayed at a client device during one or more browser sessions. Responsive to a request for a first web page, the first web page is displayed at the client device through the browser session. A timeout condition at the browser is detected and a second predetermined web page is displayed at the client device, replacing the first web page, and optionally also clearing cache memory.
Abstract:
A method, computer program product, and a signaling system for conveying caller identification information of a called party to a forward-to telephone device in a communications system. A call set up message is received at a switching system servicing a called telephone device. The call set up message is determined to be forwarded to a switching system servicing a forward-to telephone device. Caller identification information of the called telephone device is inserted into a caller identification field of the call set up message.
Abstract:
An apparatus, system and method of importing data arranged in a table on an electronic whiteboard into a spreadsheet displayed in a computer system are provided. Generally, the spreadsheet and the table each include a plurality of grid cells. To determine where in the spreadsheet to display the data in the table, the location of the cursor in the spreadsheet is first established. This grid cell is used as a reference point. That is, data in the left-most/top-most grid cell on the table is displayed in the grid cell of the spreadsheet in which the cursor is located.
Abstract:
A method, system, and program for delivering consumer service information to a user via a user's television service carrier are provided. A user places a call to a consumer service center and selects to receive information displayed at the user's television. An identification for a user's television service carrier and the user's account number are retrieved by the consumer service center. The consumer service center contracts with the user's television service carrier for bandwidth for information delivery. Then, the consumer service center delivers the information via the user's television service carrier in association with the user's account number, such that the user receives the information at a television interface receiving the information over the contracted bandwidth from the user's television service carrier.
Abstract:
A broadcast receiver which automatically tunes to a signal source depending on a set of rules and vehicle state conditions, such as seat occupancy, door sensors, time, day of the week, weather conditions, program content rating, vehicle location, user language preference, user identity and driver preferences. The user can configure a set of rules which causes the receiver to be automatically retuned in response to changes in conditions of the vehicle, such as favorites for the commute to work and favorites while driving with children. This eliminates the driver's distraction while operating the vehicle of searching for stations and routinely changing the station setting, thereby enhancing the usefulness, convenience, and safety of the vehicle broadcast receiver.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for reselling items won in a network auction are provided. In response to a query to the winning bidder in a network auction, the previously-auctioned item is reposted for resale using existing descriptive data. In other words, the winning bidder does not have to resubmit a description of the item to be resold. Additionally, previously unsuccessful bidders are notified that the previously-auctioned item is reposted for sale. A minimum bid price is set in response to a suggested minimum bid and a seller-specified minimum bid.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and media for processing and clearing a check are disclosed. Embodiments include hardware and/or software for generating an e-check in response to receipt of a paper check, by which a merchant performs the manual data entry for the merchant, the merchant's bank, the Federal Reserve Bank, and the purchaser's bank clearing procedures. The paper check is electronically scanned at the point of sale (POS) terminal to create a check object (the ‘e-check’) that contains the binary data of the check information, a scanned image of the paper check, and identification data from the purchaser. Then, the check object is submitted to the check writer's, or purchaser's bank, for automated clearing without having to process the physical document any further.
