摘要: A slave manipulator manipulates a medical device in response to operator manipulation of an input device through joint control systems. The stiffness and strength of the slave manipulator are adjustable according to criteria such as the mode of operation of the slave manipulator, the functional type of the medical device currently being held by the slave manipulator, and the current phase of a medical procedure being performed using the slave manipulator by changing corresponding parameters of the control system. For safety purposes, such changes are not made until it is determined that it can be done in a smooth manner without causing jerking of the medical device. Further, an excessive force warning may be provided to surgery staff when excessive forces are being commanded on the slave manipulator for more than a specified period of time.

摘要: Embodiments of an instrument manipulator are disclosed. An instrument manipulator can include a track; a translational carriage coupled to ride along the track; a shoulder yaw joint coupled to the translational carriage; a shoulder pitch joint coupled to the shoulder yaw joint, the shoulder pith joint including an arm, a wrist mount coupled to the arm, struts coupled between the wrist mount and the shoulder yaw joint, and a shoulder pitch mechanism coupled to the arm; a yaw-pitch-roll wrist coupled to the wrist mount, the yaw-pitch-roll wrist including a yaw joint and a differentially driven pitch-roll joint; and an instrument mount coupled to the wrist. The various joints and carriages can be driven by motors.

摘要: An apparatus for guiding an elongated flexible instrument comprises a variable-length support assembly. The variable-length support assembly includes a first end, a second end, a plurality of support member pairs, and a plurality of eyelets configured to receive the elongated flexible instrument. Each support member pair comprises a first support member linked to a second support member, and each of the plurality of eyelets is movably coupled to at least one of the plurality of support member pairs along a longitudinal central axis between the first end and the second end. The variable-length support assembly is configured to selectively transition from a compressed configuration to an expanded configuration along the longitudinal central axis, and the plurality of eyelets are adapted to support the elongated flexible instrument as the elongated flexible instrument is advanced along the longitudinal central axis. Each of the plurality of eyelets includes a tapered alignment member configured to contact a tapered alignment member of an adjacent eyelet to move the plurality of eyelets into alignment along the longitudinal axis as the variable length assembly transitions from the expanded configuration to the compressed configuration.
