A variable displacement swash plate type compressor is suitable for use as a refrigerant compressor for automobile air conditioner. The compressor includes pistons, an oscillating member for driving the piston, a rotating member for oscillating the oscillating member, a plate member for imparting a rotational force to the rotating member, and a main shaft connected to the plate member. A member, having a spherical or cylindrical surface portion and a flat surface portion, is provided between the rotating member and the plate member in such a manner that it is slidably in contact with both of the rotating member and the plate member. Also, movement of the oscillating member is defined by contact of the oscillating member with a stationary member. Consequently, it is possible to provide a variable displacement swash plate type compressor which assures reliable capacity control at a high-speed rotation and which vibrates and wears less. Furthermore, it is possible to prevent application of a thrust load to the drive shaft.

A variable displacement swash plate type compressor operable with reduced vibration and noise and, hence, suitable for use in automotive air-conditioning refrigeration cycle has a main shaft adapted to be driven by a driving power source; a drive plate fixed to the main shaft; a swash plate main part tiltably engaging through an engaging portion with the drive plate so as to be tiltable with respect to the axis of the main shaft and to make a precessional rotation in accordance with the rotation of the main shaft; a piston support rotatably carried by the swash plate main part so as to make a precessional rotation together with the swash plate main part; pistons having one ends engaging with the piston support so as to reciprocatingly move in respective cylinders in accordance with the precessional rotation of the swash plate main part; and a mechanism for causing a change in the angle of tilt of the swash plate main part with respect to the axis of the main shaft so as to effect a control of displacement. The swash plate main part is provided with a balancing portion which cancels an unbalance of mass produced by the engaging portion at a predetermined angle of tilt of the swash plate so as to locate at least the gravity center of the swash plate main part on the axis of the main shaft.

The refrigerant passage has a sharply bent portion for separating lubrication oil from a refrigerant flowing therein and communicates with the crank chamber to discharge blow-by gas therefrom.

A movable vane type compressor having a rotor rotatable within a cam cylinder. The inner peripheral surface of the cam cylinder and the outer peripheral surface of the rotor approach each other most closely at a plurality of positions which in combination define a plurality of compression chambers between these peripheral surfaces. The rotor carries a plurality of movable vanes which are movable radially inwardly and outwardly with their one ends held in sliding contact with the inner peripheral surface of the cam cylinder as the rotor rotates so as to cause suction, compression and discharge actions in each compression chamber. A refrigerant passage for introducing the refrigerant gas into the compression chambers is formed between the side plate closing one axial end of the cam cylinder and a front cover covering the side plate. The suction passage extends in a hook-like form in the direction of rotation of the rotor.
