A light beam whose diffraction state has been controlled by a diffraction control element is condensed on a hologram recording medium. With this arrangement, a predetermined diffracted light component is removed from a diffracted light beam emergent from the diffraction control element when recording information, which is based on the diffraction state controlled by the diffraction control element, in a hologram recording medium. Thus, noise components when information is recorded can be reduced.

The control signal generation circuit generates the control signal based on a checking result given by the magnetic tape checking circuit, and the decoder circuit identifies the transmitted control signal to control the gain of the reproduction amplifier circuit.

Embodiments can provide methods and apparatus for cleaning contaminant from rotary magneto-resistive heads while guarding against damage to the head from excess cleaning, and the like. Specific embodiments can control the rotational speed of a rotary magneto-resistive head in order to facilitate cleaning operations. Embodiments include a cleaning device and a control method, and are suited for use in a magneto-resistive head mounted on a rotary cylinder of a computer tape storage unit, for example, although application of the present invention is not limited to such embodiments.

A press-talk trunk is a communication system receives press-talk signals from voice terminals having press-talk switches. In one aspect of the invention, the press-talk trunk is scanned by a central controller that selects an active press-talk signal and sets up a corresponding 1.times.N voice communication path among the terminals. In another aspect of the invention, the press-talk truck itself selects an active press-talk signal and notifies the central controller by means of an interrupt. In yet another aspect of the invention, the press-talk trunk also receives voice signals from all the terminals, selects a voice signal from a terminal having an active press-talk signal, and sends that voice signal back to all the other terminals. A modular type image forming system includes a laser printer main unit and a plurality of optional units, such as a both side processing unit, a large quantity paper feeding unit and a mail box unit, each of which is operatively coupled to said main unit through a commonly usable optical fiber cable through a commonly usable connector. Each unit has its own CPU and serial communications between the CPUs of different units may be carried out through the optical cables. The CPU of the main unit may determine the identity of each of the optional units connected thereto through such communications. The main unit also includes an interface circuit through which the main unit is operatively coupled to each of the optional units. The interface circuit includes a port selector which establishes a connection pattern between the main and optional units in accordance with the identity information of each of the optional units connected. When paper is fed into a transportation path, paper ID is assigned to the paper and retained until the paper is discharged. If the paper is removed from the path without passing a predetermined location, the same image is printed again.

An apparatus for detecting the flow amount of a fluid passing through a passage. The apparatus comprises a scroll chamber having a circular horizontal cross section and having an inlet opening defined in a tangential direction of the scroll chamber and an outlet opening defined at a substantial center portion of a bottom surface of the scroll chamber. The fluid is introduced through the inlet opening and discharged from the outlet opening. In the scroll chamber, a conically protruding member is provided on a substantial center portion of the top surface of the scroll chamber so as to be protruded vertically and downwardly along the axis of the scroll chamber. A spheral member encased in the scroll chamber is turned about the protruding member and along a wall of the scroll chamber in response to introduction of the fluid through the inlet opening. The flow amount of fluid is measured by detecting the number of turns of the spheral member. The scroll chamber has a conical portion whose diameter decreases toward the upper side and is arranged so that the spheral member is turned with it being brought into contact with the tapered surface of the conical portion. This provides an extremely stable detection of the fluid flow.
