Abstract: Techniques are described for using an inter-intra-prediction block. A video coder may generate a first prediction block according to an intra-prediction mode and generate a second prediction block according to an inter-prediction mode. The video coder may weighted combine, such as based on the intra-prediction mode, the two prediction blocks to generate an inter-intra-prediction block (e.g., final prediction block). In some examples, an inter-intra candidate is identified in a list of candidate motion vector predictors, and an inter-intra-prediction block is used based on identification of the inter-intra candidate in the list of candidate motion vector predictors.

Abstract: A video coder may determine a motion vector of a non-adjacent block of a current picture of the video data. The non-adjacent block is non-adjacent to a current block of the current picture. Furthermore, the video coder determines, based on the motion vector of the non-adjacent block, a motion vector predictor (MVP) for the current block. The video coder may determine a motion vector of the current block. The video coder may also determine a predictive block based on the motion vector of the current block.

Abstract: An example method of entropy coding video data includes determining a window size of a plurality of window sizes for a context of a plurality of contexts used in a context-adaptive coding process to entropy code a value for a syntax element of the video data; entropy coding, based on a probability state of the context, a bin of the value for the syntax element; updating a probability state of the context based on the window size and the coded bin. The example method also includes entropy coding a next bin with the same context based on the updated probability state of the context.

Abstract: Techniques are described for performing constrained three-dimensional (3D) color prediction for color gamut scalability in video coding. Color prediction techniques for color gamut scalability may be used by video coders to generate inter-layer reference pictures when a color gamut for a reference layer of video data is different than a color gamut for an enhancement layer of the video data, or when a bit depth of the reference layer is different than a bit depth of the enhancement layer. According to the techniques, a video coder may perform 3D color prediction with constrained bit depths of input and output color components of the 3D lookup table. According to further techniques, in the case of multiple layers, a video coder may perform 3D color prediction with constrained application to reference pictures in only one or more identified reference layers.

Abstract: A video decoder can be configured to determine that a block of video data is encoded using a bi-directional inter prediction mode; determine that the block of video data is encoded using a bi-directional optical flow (BIO) process; inter predict the block of video data according to the bi-directional inter prediction mode; perform the BIO process for the block, wherein performing the BIO process for the block comprises determining a single motion vector refinement for a group of pixels in the block, wherein the group of pixels comprises at least two pixels; refine the group of pixels based on the single motion vector refinement; and output a BIO refined predictive block of video data comprising the refined group of pixels.

The apparatus comprises a memory unit configured to store reference layer pictures associated with a reference layer, an enhancement layer, or both. The apparatus further comprises a processor operationally coupled to the memory unit. In one embodiment, the processor is configured to restrict usage of at most one reference layer pictures that has a different spatial resolution than a current picture as an inter-layer reference picture, and predict the current picture using inter-layer prediction and the inter-layer reference picture.

Abstract: Systems and methods for coding video information for a current view based on a residual prediction from video information for a reference view are described. In one innovative aspect, an apparatus for coding digital video is provided. The apparatus includes a memory configured to store current view video information and reference view video information. The apparatus also includes a processor configured to determine a value of a current video unit of the current view based at least on a motion compensated block of the reference view. The motion compensated block may be determined based at least in part on motion information and a disparity vector associated with the current video unit. Decoding devices and methods as well as corresponding encoding devices and methods are described.

Abstract: A device for decoding video data determines that a current block of video data is coded using a linear model prediction mode; for the luma component of the current block, determines reconstructed luma samples; based on luma samples in a luma component of one or more already decoded neighboring blocks and chroma samples in a chroma component of the one or more already decoded neighboring blocks, determines values for linear parameters, wherein the luma samples in the luma component of the one or more already decoded neighboring blocks comprise luma samples from a starting line in the luma component of the one or more already decoded neighboring blocks, wherein the starting line in the luma component of the one or more already decoded neighboring blocks is at least one line removed from a border line of the luma component of the current block.

Abstract: A method of decoding video data, including receiving an encoded block of video data that was encoded using an inter-prediction mode, receiving one or more syntax elements indicating a motion vector difference (MVD) associated with the encoded block of video data, determining a current MVD precision, from three or more MVD precisions, for the one or more syntax elements indicating the MVD, wherein the three or more MVD precisions include an N-sample MVD precision, where N is an integer indicating a number of samples indicated by each successive codeword of the one or more syntax elements indicating the MVD, and wherein N is greater than 1, decoding the one or more syntax elements indicating the MVD using the determined current MVD precision, and decoding the encoded block of video data using the decoded MVD.
