摘要: The present invention relates to an automated handling line guide rail assembly (10) for use on an automated handling line where containers are being processed. A typical application of the present invention will be on a bottling line where containers are conveyed between various machines to presented to and taken from the various machines by a star wheel and guide rail (16, 17) assembly. Advantageously, the present invention provides an automated handling line guide rail assembly that defines the perimeter of the container's path with a guide rail that is movable radially to define the perimeter at different radii but still centred on substantially the same spot.

摘要: A method for determining the presence and concentration of components in serum includes the steps of providing a serum sample, performing optical analysis of the serum sample using a spectrometer to provide spectral data based on optical properties of the serum sample, determining the concentrations of albumin, globulins and hemoglobin in the serum sample based on comparisons of the spectral data with reference spectra and outputting the determined concentrations of the albumin, globulins and hemoglobin. The invention can be used to accurately determine the concentration of albumin, globulins and hemoglobin in blood serum and can form the basis of initial cancer screening and to gauge a patient's response to treatment.

摘要: The present invention relates to an adjustable star wheel and guide rail assembly for use with containers being processed on an automated handling line between machines such as rotary packaging machines. Star wheels derive their name from their general shape. The star wheels of this invention have fingers that support containers, such that they convey the containers as the star wheel rotates. Conveniently, the fingers of the present invention may be set in any position within their range of movement. In addition, a supporting guide rail may be adjusted, for example by rotation on cams. Thus, the fingers and the guide rail may be set to convey containers of varying sizes whilst keeping the container's centres travelling along the centreline of the conveyor.

摘要: Surgical instrumentation and methods for performing a bypass procedure in a digestive system incorporate laparoscopic techniques to minimize surgical trauma to the patient. The instrumentation includes an outer guide member dimensioned for insertion and passage through an esophagus of a patient and defining an opening therein extending at least along a portion of the length of the outer guide member, an elongate anvil delivery member at least partially disposed within the opening of the outer guide member and being adapted for longitudinal movement within the outer guide member between an initial position and an actuated position and an anvil operatively engageable with the delivery member. The anvil includes an anvil rod defining a longitudinal axis and an anvil head connected to the anvil rod. The anvil head is at least partially disposed within the opening of the outer guide member when in the initial position of the delivery member and is fully exposed from the distal end of the outer guide member upon movement of the delivery member to the actuated position.

摘要: A graphical user interface is configured to display information related to diagnosis and/or repair of various objects, such as automobiles. The GUI displays relevant reference information, of any type, next to procedure steps of a selected diagnostic or repair procedure. Advantageously, reference information from multiple sources may be automatically selected for display in the GUI according to a current task that is selected by the user. Accordingly, a technician viewing the GUI does not need to access any other reference information, valuable man hours are spared, and efficiency increases. In one embodiment, the layout and immediate availability of relevant reference information may also increase the learning capabilities of the viewing technician. Thus, the layout of information in the GUI as described herein may facilitate increased employee productivity and increased employee learning.

摘要: A solid state laser has an elongate slab of lasing material having a rectangular cross section with the lower face of the slab contacting a slab mount which is of a high thermal conductivity material. Energy to drive the lasing medium is provided by a flash lamp. Upper and lower faces of the slab are polished to an optically smooth finish so that light is able to propagate in a generally axial direction through the slab. Side faces of the slab are polished and then re-roughened to provide a finish with a surface damage zone comparable in depth to the wavelength of the lasing emission. For a lasing wavelength of one micrometer, the depth of surface damage is in the region of one micrometer.

摘要: A data entry system for providing a computer readable record of historical information, such as market survey information, relating to at least one common subject, such as a particular product, having a plurality of different possible attributes, such as price, store in which purchased, etc., with the attributes having a plurality of different selectable definitions, such as different store names, different price values, etc. The system comprises at least one electrical crosspoint matrix array with each of the crosspoints having an associated indicia corresponding to one of the selectable definitions and having bit state corresponding to the absence of the associated definition and a different bit state corresponding to the presence of the associated definition. Addressable temporary storage means, such as a random access memory, having a plurality of different bit addresses with a unique bit address being associated with each of the bits associated with the crosspoints is provided, with the temporary storage means being selectively connectable to each of the crosspoints for recording the state of the associated bit at the unique associated bit address therefor. An electrical contact probe is provided for selectively changing the state of the bit associated with a crosspoint by selective contact therewith. The temporary storage and the crosspoint matrix array are synchronously scanned for selectively connecting each of the crosspoints to its associated unique bit address to provide the state of the associated bit thereto at the time of the synchronous scan of the crosspoint so as to provide a bit value map of the crosspoint array in the temporary storage. The bit value map is selectively dumped from temporary storage to a permanent magnetic storage, such as a multichannel tape, the permanently stored map being computer readable for providing a computer readable historical information record relating to the subject. A plurality of such crosspoint matrix arrays may be time division multiplexed to provide a common permanent storage record thereof.
