A motor fuel composition comprising a major portion of a base fuel and a minor portion, sufficient to provide port fuel injector and intake valve detergency, of the multi-functional motor fuel additive of the present invention and a concentrate of the multi-functional motor fuel additive of the present invention are also provided.
Abstract:
A polymeric additive prepared from ethylene and at least one (C.sub.3 -C.sub.10) alpha-monoolefin and a non-conjugated dienes or triene comprising from about 15 to 80 mole percent of ethylene and from about 20 to 85 mole percent of the (C.sub.3 -C.sub.10) alpha-monoolefin and from about 0 to 15 mole percent of the diene or triene. This polymeric substrate has a number average molecular weight ranging from about 5,000 to about 500,000. It is modified by reacting the polymer with an unsaturated epoxide wherein the intermediate graft co- or terpolymer is characterized as having pendant epoxides within the substrate.Post-reacting this graft co- or terpolymer with 1,3,4-thiadiazine modified with substituted phenols, diaryl amines, or phenophiazines generates a polymeric lubricant additive with enhanced anti-oxidant, dispersant, and anti-wear properties.
Abstract:
A lubricant additive that imparts enhanced dispersancy and antioxidancy has been prepared by reacting a copolymer or terpolymer with an acrylating agent followed by treatment with a dialiphatic or aromatic phosphate. The copolymer is prepared from ethylene and at least one (C.sub.3 -C.sub.10) alpha-monoolefin and, optionally, a polyene selected from non-conjugated dienes and trienes comprising from about 15 to 80 mole percent of ethylene, from about 20 to 85 mole percent of said (C.sub.3 -C.sub.10) alpha-monoolefin and from about 0 to 15 mole percent of said polyene having a number average molecular weight ranging from about 5,000 to about 500,000.
Abstract:
A VII olefin copolymer, prepared by grafting allyl amine onto EPM or EPT, permits attainment of improved dispersancy and viscosity index in oils.
Abstract:
A novel fuel composition contains gasohol plus, as a wear-inhibiting additive, a reaction product of an acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and an amine such as mono-oleyl amine.
Abstract:
A method for preparing a lactone reaction product comprising reacting an alkenyl-succinic acid under substantially anhydrous conditions at elevated temperature ranging up to about 100.degree. in the presence of an .alpha. carbon halogen substituted acetic acid. The .alpha. carbon halogen substituted acetic acid may have from one to three halogen substituents and has a pKa of less than 3.
Abstract:
Unsaturated cyclic keto acids bearing pendant alkyl groups may be prepared by rearranging substituted dicarboxylic acid anhydrides in the presence of a strong Bronsted acid catalyst. The products may be useful as corrosion inhibitors in alcohol fuels and as intermediates in chemical and additive manufacture.
Abstract:
An additive concentrate for improving the lubricity of low sulfur fuels comprises an additive composition diluted in an aromatic solvent, said composition comprising the reaction product of a first glyceride possessing an unsaturated fatty acid content of at least about 40 mole %, based on the total weight of fatty acid present in the first glyceride, and an iodine number of greater than 35, a second glyceride possessing an unsaturated fatty acid content of less than about 20 mole %, based on the total weight of the fatty acids present in the second glyceride, and an iodine number of less than 35, and, at least one alkanolamine. The concentrate remains fluid and stable at low temperatures and, when added to low sulfur fuels, improves lubricity, enhances fuel economy and minimizes engine deposits.
