    Abstract: A wireless telecommunication system includes base stations for communicating with terminal devices. One or more base stations support a power boost operating mode in which a base station's available transmission power is concentrated in a subset of its available transmission resources to provide enhanced transmission powers as compared to transmission powers on these transmission resources when the base station is not operating in the power boost mode. A base station establishes an extent to which one or more base stations in the wireless telecommunications system support the power boost operating mode conveys an indication of this to a terminal device. The terminal device receives the indication and uses the corresponding information to control its acquisition of a base station of the wireless telecommunication system, for example by taking account of which base stations support power boosting and/or when power boosting is supported during a cell attach procedure.

    Abstract: A wireless telecommunications system including a base station and a terminal device and employing a radio interface having a downlink radio frame structure including radio subframes including an arrangement of reference symbols for channel estimation. The base station is configured to determine a period of time for which certain terminal device specific data are not scheduled for transmission to the terminal device and to communicate this information to the terminal device through selective suppression of at least one reference symbol. Different reference symbol(s) may be suppressed to indicate different periods of time. The terminal device is configured to monitor the reference symbols transmitted by a base station to identify where reference symbols are suppressed, to determine a period of time for which the terminal device is not expected to receive certain types of data and enter a reduced activity mode for that period to conserve processing and power resources.

    Abstract: A wireless telecommunication system has a base station arranged to communicate messages to one or more terminal devices over a radio interface. The radio interface has a radio frame structure having a plurality of subframes, and a message may be transmitted in accordance with a first transmission scheme or transmitted in accordance with a second transmission scheme. The message may be transmitted in association with an identifier to indicate a terminal device to which the message is addressed. A characteristic for the identifier, for example a value or control region search space for the identifier, is dependent on whether the message is to be transmitted in accordance with the first transmission scheme or the second transmission scheme. A terminal device to which the message is addressed determines the transmission scheme from the characteristic of the identifier and receives the message accordingly.

    Abstract: A wireless telecommunications system comprises a base station and a terminal device. The system supports a virtual carrier mode of operation in which downlink communications are made by the base station using a radio interface that spans a system frequency bandwidth while the terminal device is configured to receive at least some communications from the base station within a restricted subset of transmission resources selected from within the system frequency bandwidth. The wireless telecommunications system supports terminal devices in both a radio resource control connected mode and a radio resource control idle mode. When there is to be a change in system information the base station transmits to the terminal device an indication that updated system information is to be broadcast by the base station and this indication is received by the terminal device while in the connected mode. Before seeking to acquire the updated system information, the terminal device transitions from the connected mode to the idle mode. The terminal device then seeks to acquire updated system information while in the idle mode. The base station restricts the transmission of user-plane data to the terminal device until the terminal device re-enters connected mode. Transitioning to idle mode to acquire system information can help to address issues associated with managing the communication of both system information and user-plane data using the restricted subset of transmission resources.

    Abstract: An infrastructure equipment forming part of a mobile communications network receives data packets from a communications terminal, and including a scheduler configured to control a transmitter and a receiver to transmit and receive signals according to the wireless access interface. The scheduler is configured to receive from the receiver an indication of a number of delay tolerant data packets and non-delay tolerant data packets in an input buffer of the communications terminal, and an indication of a current state for radio communications for transmitting the data packets from the communications terminal to the infrastructure equipment via the wireless access interface. Data packets which can be classified into at least delay tolerant and non-delay tolerant data packets are transmitted by a communications terminal to conserve the power of the communications terminal and more efficiently utilize the communications resources of a wireless access interface provided by a mobile communications network.

    Abstract: A wireless telecommunication system comprises a base station arranged to communicate messages to one or more terminal devices over a radio interface.
