When a reducing agent is supplied from a supply device (5) to the NOx catalyst (4), a first supply of the reducing agent and a second supply of the reducing agent are carried out in a sequential manner by adjusting an amount of the reducing agent in such a manner that an air fuel ratio of the exhaust gas becomes a predetermined rich air fuel ratio, and a determination whether or not the NOx catalyst (4) has deteriorated is made based on a detected value of a detection device (8), which detects NH3 in the exhaust gas at the downstream side of the NOx catalyst (4), after a predetermined period of time has elapsed from the start of the first supply of the reducing agent, and after the start of the second supply of the reducing agent.

    摘要: In a fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine in which a first fuel, which has a property to inhibit the adsorption of exhaust gas components by an exhaust gas purification catalyst, and the second fuel, which has a property not to inhibit the adsorption of the exhaust gas components by the exhaust gas purification catalyst, are able to be selectively used, the present invention has a task to decrease an amount of consumption of the second fuel in a suitable manner. In order to solve this task, the fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine according the present invention is constructed such that the second fuel is first supplied to the internal combustion engine when the exhaust gas purification catalyst is in a cold state, and a change from the second fuel to the first fuel is then made before the exhaust gas purification catalyst subsequently rises in temperature to an activation temperature thereof.

    摘要: A judging device comprises a catalyst, an upstream air/fuel ratio sensor having an air/fuel ratio sensing element covered with a diffusion resistance layer, and a downstream air/fuel ratio sensor. The judging device performs main feedback control to equalize the air/fuel ratio indicated by the output value of the upstream air/fuel ratio sensor to an upstream target air/fuel ratio and sub-feedback control to equalize the output value of the downstream air/fuel ratio sensor to a downstream target value. The judging device acquires “an imbalance judging parameter” which increases with “the increase of the difference between the amount of hydrogen contained in the exhaust gas before the exhaust gas passes through the catalyst and that after the exhaust gas passes through the catalyst” according to the sub-feedback amount. When the imbalance judging parameter is larger than an abnormality judgment threshold, the judging device judges that an air/fuel ratio imbalance among the cylinders has occurred. The judging device does not make judgment on air/fuel ratio imbalance among the cylinders if a predetermined judgment prohibition condition is satisfied, for example, if the flow of the exhaust gas is a predetermined value or more.

When the change in the tank internal pressure is below a predetermined determination value, closing failure of the sealing valve is determined.

A pump module unit is installed to introduce a negative pressure into the canister. The negative pressure is introduced into the canister while the purge VSV and sealing valve are closed. An open failure diagnostic check is conducted on the sealing valve in accordance with the prevalent canister side pressure. A close failure diagnostic check is conducted on the sealing valve by making use of a differential pressure that is generated across the sealing valve as a result of the open failure diagnostic check.

    摘要: A back-pressure chamber of a tank internal pressure regulating valve and a canister are connected to each other by a communicating passage. During purging, since the negative pressure in an evaporative purge system is introduced into the back-pressure chamber, the valve opening pressure setting of the tank internal pressure regulating valve is lowered. As purge-cutting is started, the internal pressure of the canister instantly rises to the valve opening pressure of an air intake valve, thereby increasing the pressure introduced into the back-pressure chamber. Consequently, the valve opening pressure setting of the tank internal pressure regulating valve rises, thereby suppressing the valve opening operation. Thus, diagnosis is prevented from becoming erroneous as the pressure regulating valve in the evaporative purge system opens during the failure diagnosis.

An atmospheric air is introduced into the fuel reservoir when the fuel is supplied to the fuel reservoir. Accordingly, there is a fear that a misdiagnosis is performed if the failure diagnosis is performed during fuel supply. Accordingly, when the internal combustion engine is in operation and in fuel supply condition, the failure judgement process by the failure diagnosing apparatus is forbidden.

From the Boyle's law, the increasing rate of air before air supply is inversely proportional to the volume V of the pressure adjusting chamber. Therefore, the CPU, referring to the pressure within the pressure adjusting chamber before and after the air supply, acquires the volume V of the pressure adjusting chamber, and subtracts the volume V of the pressure adjusting chamber from the internal volume of a tank body to acquire the volume of a fuel chamber, i.e. remaining fuel amount.
