According to the present invention, in a heating apparatus having a viscous heater using viscous fluid for heating cooling water, when an engine rotational speed is lower than a set rotational speed relative to a temperature of viscous fluid, a viscous clutch is turned on to transmit a rotational driving force of the engine to a rotor of the viscous heater. In this way, a shearing force is applied to the viscous fluid in the heat-generating chamber, and the circulating cooling water is heated by generated heat of the viscous fluid to improve the heating capacity. When the engine rotational speed is higher than the set rotational speed relative to a temperature of viscous fluid, a viscous clutch is not turned on. Therefore, the rotational driving force of the engine is not transmitted to the rotor of the viscous heater, so that the shearing force is not applied to the viscous fluid to prevent the oil temperature of the viscous fluid from increasing excessively higher than 200.degree. C.

The present invention provides a method for plasma control, in which an electric field is generated in the direction perpendicular to the surface of an object to be processed in plasma atmosphere generated in a processing chamber and another electric field is generated in the direction parallel to the surface, and the direction of ion or electron in plasma atmosphere is controlled by controlling the composite electric field composed of both the electric fields. The invention provides also an apparatus for plasma control provided with a perpendicular electric field generating means for generating an electric field in the direction perpendicular to the surface of the object, and a parallel electric field generating means for generating an electric field in the direction parallel to the surface of the object.

An exterior stainless steel sheet is provided comprising a stainless steel substrate and a coating layer formed on one surface of the steel substrate from Al, Al alloy, Zn or Zn alloy to a thickness of 0.1 to 70 .mu.m, preferably 1 to 70 .mu.m. A Zn or Zn-Ni alloy plated stainless steel strip is prepared by degreasing a stainless steel strip, substantially activating the surface of the strip, and electroplating the strip by immersing the strip in a hydrochloric acid solution having a concentration of 0.5 to 40 wt % in a zinc or zinc-nickel alloy plating bath at pH 3.5 or lower. Alternatively, activation may be carried out by cathodic electrolytic treatment in a hydrochloric acid solution having a concentration of 0.5 to 40 wt % at a current density of 0.1 to 100 A/dm. During electroplating of one side, the other side of the strip not to be plated is covered with a protective film. A stainless steel sheet comprising a stainless steel substrate and a coating layer formed on one surface of the steel substrate from Zn or Zn alloy to a thickness of 0.1 to 50 .mu.m, preferably 1 to 50 .mu.m is useful in preparing welded pipes.
