摘要: A spinal distraction system, according to one embodiment, includes an adjustable spinal distraction rod comprising first and second members, the adjustable spinal distraction rod configured for non-invasive elongation of the first and second members. The system includes an anchor rod configured for mounting to a bone of a subject, the anchor rod comprising a threaded portion and a ball disposed at one end thereof and a nut disposed on the threaded portion of the anchor rod the nut having a first contact surface. The system further includes a locking joint having a cup portion configured to receive an end of the first member, the cup portion comprising a second contact surface, wherein tightening of the nut binds the first and second contact surfaces to thereby lock the joint and prevent articulation and wherein the second member is configured for mounting to a second bone of a subject.

摘要: A dynamic rod implantable into a patient and connectable between two vertebral anchors in adjacent vertebral bodies is provided. The dynamic rod fixes the adjacent vertebral bodies together in a dynamic fashion providing immediate postoperative stability and support of the spine. The dynamic rod comprises a first rod portion dynamically connected to a second rod portion at a retainer that has separate chambers for receiving rod portions. One rod portion is configured for longitudinal movement and the other rod portion is configured for polyaxial angulation relative to the retainer. The dynamic rod is configured such that the retainer is located proximate to one of the facet joints when implanted into a patient. The dynamic rod permits relative movement of the first and second rod portions allowing the rod to carry some of the natural flexion, extension and rotation moments of the spine.

摘要: The invention generally concerns a spine stabilization system having one or more flexible elements having an opening or slit. The flexible element may be integrally formed in a rod having ends capable of receiving fasteners. The flexible element may limit rotation, flexion-extension, or lateral bending of the spine. The slit or opening may form helical pattern on the rod, and more than one slit or opening may be provided. The flexible element may be conformable to the natural spinal movement.

摘要: In a spinal implant device, a frictionless pivot member is used to interconnect multiple links and produce a scissor jack-like device with minimal frictional wear characteristics. The device is attached to at least two vertebrae, wherein a first device segment is attached to a first vertebra and at least one additional device segment is attached to at least one additional vertebra. The implanted device functions to control and dampen the movement between the attached vertebral bodies.

摘要: A spinal stabilization system includes a pair of vertebral anchors and a flexible construct extending between the anchors to provide dynamic stabilization of the spine. The flexible construct includes first and second spring arms coupled to the anchors at first ends thereof and second ends coupled at a joint. The spring arms are capable of flexing toward and away from each other during movement of the spine. The system may include a biasing member for biasing movement of the spring arms toward and/or away from each other. The system may further include an adjustment feature that allows the distraction to be adjusted in situ. The stiffness characteristic of each of the spring arms may be selectively adjusted to meet the specific application. A method of stabilizing a spine includes securing anchors to selected vertebrae and coupling the flexible construct to the anchors through a top loading procedure. The flexible construct may be coupled so that a rotational axis of the flexible construct is anterior of a head portion of the anchors.

摘要: The present invention provides a dynamic stabilization device positionable about a portion of a spinal column. The stabilization device may generally include a first component and a second component, where the first and second components are movably coupled to one another to define an arcuate path of motion. The stabilization device may also include one or more adjustment elements positionable within first and second adjustment openings to affect the path of motion between the first and second components and/or the behavior and characteristics of the movement. In addition, one or more resistive elements may be adjustably positionable within either and/or both of the first and second adjustment openings to provide resistance and/or dampening of the forces experienced as the first and second components move relative to one another. The stabilization device may further define a joint having three degrees of freedom to adapt to movement of a spinal column.

摘要: An apparatus for stabilizing a spine is disclosed which includes a first link member pivotably coupled to a second link member. The first or second link members may have one or more stops to limit the motion of the implant. The first and second link members may include a first and second respective height adjustment mechanisms. A force control mechanism may also be provided which is coupled to the implant and includes a main body coupled to an extension control member and a flexion control member. The extension control member may extend from the main body towards the first stop and the flexion control member extends from the main body towards the second stop.

摘要: The present invention describes methods for treating a degenerative intervertebral disc disorder comprising implanting a disc stabilization device into a subject and administering at least one therapeutic agent which promotes healing of the disc to the subject. The invention also includes methods of promoting healing of damaged or degenerated intervertebral discs comprising decreasing the load of the disc through a disc stabilization device and inhibiting the inflammatory process. Also described are hydrogels for use in combination with extradiscal stabilization devices, as intradiscal stabilization devices, as drug carriers, and as combinations thereof.
