摘要: Operations in a worksite (20) are managed by networking at least some items of apparatus (4, 16, 24, 26, 30, 28, 34) which perform tasks in connection with said worksite and which receive and/or send data. The items of apparatus are organized in hierarchical levels according to a determined dependency relationship of the worksite. Communications are made with an electronic data network comprising management means (74, 76, 66, 64) cooperating with a plurality of communications interfaces (42-46), a given item of apparatus having a data link with a specified communications interface. The management means stores a correspondence between each item of apparatus and an address structure reflecting the hierarchical position of that item of apparatus (4, 16, 24, 26, 30, 28, 34) in the determined dependency relationship of the worksite. It uses that correspondence to establish a communications link with a selected item of apparatus, via its communications interface, in response to a call addressed with an address structure reflecting the hierarchical position of that selected item of apparatus.

摘要: A method for retrieving data from a network having network elements in a multi-level hierarchical tree includes providing a data exchange interface defining formats for requesting and delivery of types of data to be retrieved, generating a request at the data exchange interface to define the data to be retrieved, using the request to define a canonical name and a depth indicator, implementing, at one or more levels in the network, a data retrieval routine that uses the canonical name to generate a command that is issued to the element or elements from which data are to be retrieved to cause the element or elements to return data including a description and a value, and communicating the returned data to the data exchange interface in the defined data format.

摘要: A technique for examining the relationships of autonomous systems (ASes) participating in an Internet Exchange Point (IXP) utilizes packet tracing servers proximate the IXPs. Where such packet tracing servers cannot be found in the participating ASes, the methodology identifies additional vantage points by looking at a list of ASes that are one hop away from the ASes at the IXP. The choice of one-hop away ASes is made judiciously by picking ones that have better connectivity, based on past-data. Plural-hop ASes may also be used where necessary.

摘要: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for looking up location-specific configuration information for a network node or a subnet. During system operation, a network node creates a query message containing a key that comprises an Internet Protocol (IP) prefix and a string, wherein the IP prefix identifies the network node or the subnet, and the string specifies the type of configuration information. The network node then sends the query message to a name server, which is part of a distributed system that provides a global naming service, wherein the name server additionally stores configuration information. Finally, the network node receives a response message from the name server, wherein the response message contains the requested configuration information.

摘要: A top-level domain (TLD) hierarchical routing system comprises a domain name server (DNS) configured to analyze a universal resource locator (URL) top-level domain (TLD) and to route an Internet query to a numerical Internet protocol (IP) destination; a proprietary server Internet-coupled with the numerical Internet protocol (IP) destination, the server configured to analyze one or more second-level domains (SLDs) behind the TLD and further to provide an operative engagement between an Internet user and a value-added service in the form of a software-as-a-service (SaaS) or application software program (ASP) relatable to selected ones of plural SLDs that are licensed or otherwise authorized to use the TLD, thereby to add value to the one or more SLDs and to the one or more users sharing such a ubiquitous Internet-based value-added services platform.
