摘要: An ink supply system for ink jet printers, the ink supply system including a closed ink supply tank for containing ink and solvent, a condenser to cool air from a tube, and a tube having connected to the air space of the ink supply tank and the condenser such that air containing evaporated solvent from the tube is cooled by the condenser such that solvent in the air will condense. Preferably, the condenser is positioned above the ink supply tank so that condensed solvent drains into the ink supply tank. Preferably, a solvent make up container is connected to the ink supply tank for supplying solvent to the ink supply tank, and an equalizing conduit connects the solvent make up container airspace to one of the ink supply tank airspace and the tube to provide for equalization of the fluid pressure between the solvent make up container and the ink supply tank. Preferably, a solvent supply device supplies solvent to the solvent make up container. The solvent supply device includes a solvent supply container for containing solvent, a support device for supporting the solvent supply container and a conduit connecting the solvent supply container to the solvent make up container such that solvent can be supplied to the solvent make up container from the solvent supply container without venting the solvent make up container to the atmosphere. Also, a solvent recovery system for recovery of solvent contained in solvent containing liquids.

摘要: The present invention provides an electrodeposition apparatus and a method for reconditioning gravure cylinders through electrodeposition. The electrodeposition apparatus includes a container for holding an ionic fluid bath and a reservoir for holding a supply of deposition material in fluid communication with the ionic fluid bath. An object, such as a gravure cylinder, is held in contact with the ionic fluid bath. Charges of opposite polarity are applied to the object and to the supply of deposition material. A barrier member and a diffusion member disposed between the supply of electrodeposition material and the object prevent contaminants from moving into contact with the object and also facilitate the dispersion of ions moving through the fluid bath between the supply of electrodeposition material and the object. Thus, once the charges are appropriately applied to the object and the supply of deposition material, ions will be attracted to the object in uniform manner to provide a uniform layer of deposition material on the object. Additionally, restrictive filters are used to filter fluid which is added to the ionic fluid bath and to facilitate uniform dispersion of this fluid along the entire length of the fluid bath.

摘要: A system for generating indicia of registration error between the respective printing units of a web-fed, four-color printing press. An optical line scanner is disposed over a web to generate signals indicative of the brightness level of successive nominal pixels along a line transverse to the motion of the web. The respective printing units each generate registration marks on the web, the relative positions of which are indicative of the relative cyclical (rotational) and transverse (lateral) positions of the printing units with respect to the web. As the web moves past the scanners, successive line scans generated by the scanner provide the equivalent of a two-dimensional raster scan of a strip of the web centered on the expected center line of registration marks produced by the respective printing units. The centers of the respective registration marks are determined, and the cyclical (rotational) and transverse (lateral) positions of the printing unit adjusted, in accordance with deviations from expected relative positions. The use of symmetrical marks and, in particular, right-angled diamonds is disclosed for facilitating calculation of the center of the marks.

摘要: The invention provides a cutoff control system having a capture range equal to the length of the image (signature) which is highly tolerant of spurious transitions, such as lateral shifting and instantaneous interruptions of the web. A highly pipelined hardware correlation unit, cooperating with several high speed RAM devices having independent address generators, is used to cross-correlate new patterns with a reference pattern. An illustrated system for relating a cyclical machine operation to the position of images on a web includes position adjustment means (24,30,84) responsive to control signals for varying the effective position of the machine operation along the moving web, means (34,40,50) for generating image signatures indicative of the image at respective sampling intervals during the matching operation cycle for respective machine cycles, means (56,58,68,72) for selectively generating reference pattern indicia from a first image signature and for selectively generating comparative indicia from a successive image signature, means (71) for generating correlation cooeficients in accordance with the differences between the reference pattern and shifted versions of the comparative indicia, means (68,69,70) for processing the correlation coefficients to determine which of the comparative indicia produced the largest correlation coeficient and generating an indicating signal in response thereto, and means (80) for generating the control signals to the position adjustment means in accordance with the indicating signal.
