摘要: An on-line pulp digester control system. More particularly, this invention pertains to a control system which employs real time measurements from ion mobility spectrometry to automatically rapidly and continuously determine the physical and chemical characteristics of wood chip feedstock being fed into a pulp digester and thereby maximize process efficiencies, minimize chemical and energy consumption and improve product uniformity. An intelligent control system which utilizes the moisture content and species of wood chips on-line in a pulping process comprising: (a) conveying wood chips from a wood chip storage facility to a digester; (b) scanning the wood chips as they are conveyed to determine their species and moisture content by heating the wood chips and sensing the moisture content and characterizing the species of the wood chips by species signatures obtained by an ion mobility spectrometer; and (c) regulating steam flow and chemicals supplied to the digester according to the moisture content and the characterization of the wood chip species.

摘要: A featherable propeller assembly for fitment to a drive shaft has a blade carrying assembly which is carried by a hub assembly. The blade carrying assembly is rotatable relative to the hub assembly within relative limits of rotation. Blades are pivotally mounted on the blade carrying assembly. The relative rotation of the hub assembly and blade carrying assembly provides for different positions of respective stop abutments, thus allowing the blades to assume each of the following conditions: (a) a forward drive condition under a forward drive rotation of the shaft; (b) a feathering condition when not under drive from the shaft where the blades are substantially free to move into an orientation which is aligned with the flow of water past the propeller; and (c) a reverse driving condition under a reverse drive rotation of the shaft.

摘要: A shunt and method of use for maintaining distal blood flow during an arteriotomy procedure is disclosed. The shunt includes a first tubular member having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen therebetween. The proximal end has an opening in communication with the lumen, and the proximal opening is adapted to receive blood from a first region of an artery. The distal end has an opening in communication with the lumen, and the distal opening is adapted to release blood into a second region of the artery. The shunt includes a second tubular member having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen therebetween which either merges and communicates at its distal end with the lumen of the first tubular member, or rides separate and parallel to it. The shunt also includes a hemostatic valve attached to the proximal end of the second tubular member, the valve acting to prevent loss of blood from the lumen of the second tubular member and to permit the introduction of a medical device into the lumen of the second tubular member and into the artery. In use, the distal opening of the shunt is inserted into the second region of an artery and secured to the lumen of the artery. A blood filter device is deployed within the artery. The proximal opening of the shunt is inserted into the first region of the artery and secured to the lumen of the artery. Endarterectomy is performed on the region of the artery which lies between the proximal opening and the distal opening of the shunt, and embolic material dislodged during the procedure is captured by the filter.

摘要: A bait-retaining fishhook includes a metal fishhook having an elongated, curved body with a line-retaining eye at one end and a point at the other end and a bait retaining member attached thereto. The bait retainer is an elongated piece of flexible thermoplastic material such as monofilament fishing line attached at one end to the body of the hook adjacent the point, the other end of the line extending away from said body portion. When bait is placed on the fishhook, and particularly when force is applied to pull the bait from the hook, the bait retaining member is separated from the body portion and inhibits removal of the bait from the hook. The assembly is made by heating the hook above the softening point of the line and touching an end of the line to the heated hook, thereby melting the end of the line onto the hook body, forming a secure connection.
