Abstract: A vacuum aspiration control system for use with a vacuum source and an aspiration catheter includes a connecting tube configured to connect the vacuum source with a lumen of an aspiration catheter. An on-off valve is operatively coupled to the connecting tube, and a sensing unit is configured to detect flow within the connecting tube and provide a signal representative of flow. A controller receives the signal to decide whether to open or close the valve. The controller may automatically close the valve to stop flow when flow through the connecting tube is unrestricted, or according to a predetermined timing sequence. The controller can further periodically open a closed valve to determine whether flow has entered an acceptable range. The controller can still further engage pulsed aspiration with a pressure manipulation assembly when flow is restricted or occluded.

Abstract: A target substance, such as a thrombus, is removed from a patient's body via minimally invasive technique. A catheter is maneuvered and positioned near the target substance. The catheter may have a soft, atraumatic tip constructed from a metallic backbone covered by a polymer. Target substances are drawn into the catheter via an aspiration source. Near the catheter's distal end, a blade and opposing surface are housed within the catheter, and the blade moves relative to the opposing surface within the catheter lumen in order to fragment the target substance. The substances are fragmented within the catheter into discreet and relatively uniform particles. The aspiration source, which helps ensnare target substances, also serves to evacuate the substance fragments from the patient's body.

Abstract: A catheter includes a shaft having a proximal end, a distal end, and a central lumen extending continuously from the proximal end to the distal end. A hypotube forms a proximal region of the shaft, and a polymer tube forms a distal region of the shaft. A periphery of the hypotube is cut in a pattern which provides a decreasing stiffness in a proximal-to-distal direction, and in some embodiments the polymer tube is reinforced by a wire embedded over at least a portion of the polymer tube's length. A guidewire lumen is disposed at or near the distal end of the catheter and extends for a portion of the catheter's length. The catheter may be used for aspiration, device delivery, or other purposes in a patient's vasculature.

Abstract: A system for treatment of ischemic stroke provides a stroke treatment workflow plan defining series of diagnostic actions and therapeutic actions to be performed at locations within a health care facility identified by beacons detectable by proximity sensors that travel with the patient. A first communications device having wireless communications capabilities receives a signal from a proximity sensor and typically transmits data to a second communications device having a visible timer and configured to receive data from and send data to other wireless communications devices. When the a patient undergoes diagnosis and treatment via the workflow plan, the system tracks the location of the patient within the workflow plan and the time at which the patient is at each location, and records the location of the patient and the time of the location within the workflow plan.

Abstract: Embolic coil implant systems and methods whereby coils are mechanically detachable are disclosed. The coils include a retention element that may be releasably retained within the distal end of an implant tool. The implant tool may include a fulcrum configured to engage a first filament and prevent the release of the coil when the first filament is engaged. Alternatively, an urging means and aperture may be disposed within the sidewall of the implant tool, and a first filament may, in conjunction with the aperture and sidewall, releasably retain the coil until the first filament is withdrawn. The implant tool may also include an alignment member for aligning the first filament.

Abstract: A method for compensating for a visual impairment in a virtual reality environment, by multiple computer systems associated with a head mounted display, including, rendering an initial image for display in a virtual reality environment, determining a first visual adjustment to the HMD based on an input received by the HMD, the input being associated with a visual impairment of a user of the HMD, determining that the first visual adjustment does not satisfy a threshold measure of compensation for the visual impairment of the user, determining a second visual adjustment to the HMD, and rendering an adjusted image for display in the virtual reality environment based on the first visual adjustment and the second visual adjustment.
