Abstract:
A large screen emissive display operating at atmospheric pressure includes pixels, the red, green, and blue subpixels of which are excited by UV laser light scanned onto the subpixels by a pixel activation mechanism. The pixel activation mechanism includes three grating light valves (GLVs) that are controlled by a processor in response to a demanded image to modulate the UV light as appropriate to produce the demanded image.
Abstract:
A system and method for retrieving uniform resource locators from television content includes a television that receives a broadcast signal. The broadcast signal includes embedded URL information. Moreover, the television includes a remote control unit that has a memory slot that is sized and shaped to receive a portable memory media. In response to a signal received at the television, e.g., from the remote control unit, the embedded URL is extracted from the broadcast signal and downloaded to the remote control unit. To facilitate Internet use, the downloaded URL can be transmitted to an Internet device, e.g., a computer or a personal digital assistant where it can be used to access information associated with Web sites linked to the URLs.

Method and apparatus for reducing the occurrence of overflow in an IIR filter. The feedback state of a filter is stored with double precision and scaled-down to increase range.
Abstract:
A wafer-level packaging process for MEMS applications, and a MEMS package produced thereby, in which a SOI wafer is bonded to a MEMS wafer and the electrical feed-throughs are made through the SOI wafer. The method includes providing a first substrate having the functional element thereon connected to at least one metal lead, and providing a second SOI substrate having a recessed cavity in a silicon portion thereof with metal connectors formed in the recessed cavity. The non-recessed surfaces of the SOI substrate are bonded to the first substrate to form a hermetically sealed cavity. Within the cavity, the metal leads are bonded to respective metal connectors. Prior to bonding, the recessed cavity has a depth that is greater than the thickness of the functional element and less than the combined thickness of the metal leads and their respective metal connectors. After bonding, silicon from the SOI substrate is removed to expose the buried oxide portion of the SOI substrate. Metal pads are then formed through the SOI substrate to the metal connectors within the cavity. Wire bond pads are thereby connected to the functional element without opening the cavity to the environment. Electrical signals may then be fed through the SOI wafer to the metal connectors, metal leads and the functional element.
Abstract:
An audio/video (AV) network, system, and method is provided which prevents audio blackout in an AV home system. The AV network includes a first device configured to decode an audio signal which comes on the transport stream with a standard definition signal as well as a high definition signal, while a high definition video signal is passed through a digital connection, for example an i.LINKnull, to a second device for decoding. In one embodiment, the first device is a set top box and the second device is a high definition television. In another embodiment, the first device and the second device form an audio/video network through the digital connection. In a further embodiment, the AV network forms a part of the home AV system.

Abstract:
A system and method for conveying information pertaining to broadcast content such that the system is robust and stripping or blocking data is rendered relatively difficult. A broadcast component encodes the content with a digital watermark or embeds an icon or other visibly or audibly transparent object (e.g., audio jingle) in the content. A TV or radio that has a microprocessor decodes the content to retrieve the watermark or analyzes the image/jingle to determine an ID. Using the ID a database is accessed to retrieve information pertaining to broadcast content. Alternatively, the watermark may represent the actual data itself. The information can include, e.g., Web site hyperlinks, and/or UPC codes, and/or advertising data.
Abstract:
A system and method for allowing a viewer to generate a playlist of favorite programs with broadcast times using a remote control, for automatically tuning a TV to the programs on the playlist at the appropriate times. The playlist can be stored on a removable media.
Abstract:
A system and method for automatically establishing TV channels, based on time/date/geographic location/location of the TV within the home either entered manually or by means of a locater system such as GPS.

Abstract:
A network architecture for a network of electronic devices includes a device layer having a plurality of electronic devices interconnected using a network backbone, wherein the plurality of electronic devices each operate using a device native communication protocol. The architecture also includes a device abstraction layer (DAL) which communicates with each of the devices using the device native communication protocols and also presents a unified communication interface to a content abstraction program interface. The content abstraction program interface communicates with the device layer through the unified communication interface of the DAL and includes a set of content services for controlling content on the network. In one embodiment the content abstraction program interface includes a content location system (CLS), a content change notification system (CCNS), and a content engagement system (CES).
