    摘要: A liquid crystal display apparatus for a matrix display is constituted by a plurality of data electrodes, a plurality of scanning electrodes disposed opposite to and intersecting the data electrodes so as to form a pixel at each overlapping of the data electrodes and scanning electrodes, a liquid crystal layer disposed between the data electrodes and scanning electrodes, and plural gradation electrodes disposed at each pixel. The gradation electrodes are capacitively coupled to each other and capacitively or electrically coupled to an associated one of the scanning electrodes and data electrodes so as to apply stepwise different voltages across the liquid crystal layer between the gradation electrodes and an opposite one of the data electrodes and scanning electrodes.

    摘要: A projection type image display apparatus which keeps the uniformity of brightness and the feeling of sharpness and yet achieves a high quality of image called a high dynamic range is provided. When the amount of projection light is made small, the projection of unnecessary leak light or scattered light from a light modulating element P from a projection optical system PL1 is suppressed and a firm black display is provided. The amount of projection light is controlled in conformity with the maximum luminance level of an input image signal. Also, the write signal of the light modulating element is modulated in conformity with the control of the amount of projection light, whereby it becomes possible to expand the display dynamic range while compensating for the display luminance level.

    摘要: The invention discloses a projection optical system for projecting an original image onto a projection surface. The projection optical system comprises a plurality of aspherical curved mirrors, which reflects image light from the original image in sequence and then forms an image on the projection surface. The projection optical system forms a projected image on the projection surface at an aspect ratio different from that of the original image by a combination of reflective actions of the image light on the aspherical surfaces of the plurality of aspherical curved mirrors. Even in a projection optical system having a wide angle of view and a short distance of projection, it is possible to implement a projection optical system that is capable of suppressing distortion and performing an optical aspect conversion.
