The measuring endoscope includes a device for producing interference fringes, a device for projecting the interference fringes onto a surface of an object to be measured, a device for scanning the interference fringes, an imaging device for reading vibrations of brightness on the surface of the object to be measured which are caused by the scanning of the interference fringes and a processing device capable of determining depths of concavities and heights of convexities on the surface the measured object by calculating data output from the imaging device. This measuring endoscope makes it possible to determine accurately the location of internal diseases within organs of human bodies, defects in gas pipes and so on.

A compact optical system for a particle analyzer and particle analyzer using same are provided. The optical system for a particle analyzer of the present invention comprises a light source, an irradiation optical system for irradiating particles passing through a flow cell with light from the light source, a photodetector for receiving the scattered light from the particles, a light shielding member for blocking the direct light from the light source from impinging the photodetector, and a detecting lens for directing the scattered light toward the photodetector, wherein the irradiation optical system forms a first focus that focuses the light from the light source on the particle passing through the flow cell, and forms a second focus that focuses the light from the light source at a position between the detecting lens and photodetector, and disposes the light shielding member at the position of the second focus.

The present invention provides an image display device including an LCD, a polarization switching liquid crystal cell, a birefringent plate, and an eyepiece. The LCD displays an image using a plurality of arrayed pixel locations. The polarization switching liquid crystal cell has a plurality of electrodes incorporated therein and switches the direction of polarization in which light emitted from the LCD is polarized. The birefringent plate varies the optical path of light emitted from the polarization switching liquid crystal cell depending on the direction of polarization. The eyepiece magnifies light representing an image displayed on the LCD. The LCD and polarization switching liquid crystal cell are positioned so that the distance L1 from the eyeballs to the virtual image plane of the LCD and the distance L2 from the eyeballs to the virtual image plane of the polarization switching liquid crystal cell will have the relationship of 1/L2−1/L1≧0.4 D or L2≦200 mm. Otherwise, the birefringent plate or the like is coated with an anti-reflective coating. The image display device thus makes unnecessary streaks or flickers indiscernible and displays an easy-to-see image.
