摘要: An oxide film is formed on an end surface of a waveguide which includes an under cladding, a core and a over cladding. An end surface of a fiber guide holding an optical fiber is coupled the end surface of the waveguide formed the oxide film with a glue. It is preferable that the oxide film is SiOx (1≦x≦1.5). This oxide film has a composition ratio of an oxygen atom smaller than the stable composition, and thus it is easy for OH radicals to appear on the surface of the oxide film. Such OH radicals bond chemically with the resin of the waveguide and the glue. Thus, an adhesive strength between the waveguide and the fiber guide is improved.

摘要: Whether or not an object is present, the surface state of the object, the material constituting the object and the presence of scattering bodies are discriminated through a simple arrangement which includes a light-emitting element for projecting light upon an object to be sensed, and a polarization beam splitter upon which light reflected from the object (or light transmitted through or scattered from the object) impinges. Reflected light from the polarization beam splitter is received by a first light-receiving element, and transmitted light from the polarization beam splitter is received by a second light-receiving element. The aforesaid discrimination is performed on the basis of the value of S/P, S-P, S-kP or (S-P)/(S+P), where S and P represent light-reception signals from the first and second light-receiving elements, and k is a constant.

摘要: A method of manufacturing a film waveguide includes the steps of: molding a first clad layer formed with a concave groove for core filling, molding a second clad layer, and laminating the surface formed with the concave groove of the first clad layer and the second clad layer using resin having a flexural modulus of smaller than or equal to 1,000 MPa. The resin contains hydrogen bonding group in a functional group of a precursor and having a refraction index higher than the clad layers, and forming a core in the concave groove by the resin. The lamination and the formation of the core is performed at the same time.

摘要: An optical multiplexer/demultiplexer and a manufacturing method thereof are disclosed, wherein a core is arranged on each side of a filter element, and the light is caused to enter the filter element from one of the cores without using a collimator lens. The loss of the transmitted light is reduced by optimizing the axial shift amount of the cores on the two sides. The optical axes of the cores 21, 23 located on both sides of the filter element 26 are displaced by δ. This axial shift amount δ is determined as A(λ)•T•tan θ, where A(λ) is a predetermined coefficient depending on the wavelength of the incident light, θ the angle between the optical axis of the incident light and the normal to the entrance surface of the filter element, and T the thickness in terms of a medium depending on the refractive indexes of the high refractive index layer and the low refractive index layer making up a multilayer film of the filter element.

摘要: An optical multiplexer/demultiplexer having a high isolation characteristic, a small polarization dependency and capable of being reduced in size is disclosed. An end portion of a core and an end portion of a core are arranged in opposed relation to each other with a thin-film filter interposed therebetween. The end portion of the core far from the filter and the end portion of the core far from the filter are arranged in substantially parallel to each other. The core is arranged in such a manner as to branch from the filter-side end portion of the core and to be optically coupled with the core. The end portion of the core near to the filter and the end portion of the core near to the filter are curved. The end portion of the core near to the filter is curved in a manner protruded toward the core. The end portion of each of the core and the core far from the filter reaches an end of an optical waveguide, and the end portion of the core far from the filter reaches a side of the optical waveguide.

摘要: A light transmission module includes an optical converter for converting an electrical signal to an optical signal; a light transmission path for transmitting the optical signal converted by the optical converter; an electrical transmission path for transmitting an input electrical signal; and a control instructing unit for instructing stop of drive to the optical converter based on a detection of an input electrical signal. When an input electrical signal having a predetermined frequency is detected, the input electrical signal having the predetermined frequency is converted to an optical signal and transmitted in the light transmission path. When input of an electrical signal other than the predetermined frequency is detected, the electrical signal other than the predetermined frequency is transmitted by the electrical transmission path without being converted to an optical signal due to the stop of the drive of the optical converter.

摘要: A method of manufacturing a film waveguide includes supplying a precursor consisting of monomer or oligomer of an elastomer having a flexural modulus after curing smaller than or equal to 1,000 MPa to a substrate; pressing a stamper on the precursor of the elastomer, applying pressure to the precursor of the elastomer by the stamper and thinning a film thickness of the precursor of the elastomer; forming a lower clad layer by curing the precursor of the elastomer; forming a core on the lower clad layer; and forming an upper clad layer on the lower clad layer and the core. A film waveguide has at least one of a lower clad layer or an upper clad layer formed by an elastomer having a flexural modulus smaller than or equal to 1,000 MPa. A sum of film thicknesses of the clad layers is less than or equal to 300 mm.
