    Abstract: This application relates to time-encoding modulators (301,700) having a self-oscillating modulator module configured to receive an input signal and output a pulse-width modulated signal (SPWM) where the pulse-width modulated signal is synchronised to a first clock signal (CLK1). A hysteretic comparator module (302) located in a feedforward path is configured to generate the time encoded signal (SPWM) at a first node (304) based on the input signal (SIN) and a feedback signal (SFB). A feedback path is coupled to the first node to provide the feedback signal, which is either applied to an input of the hysteretic comparator module via a loop filter (701) in the feedback path or applied to the feedforward path prior to a loop filter (701) upstream of the hysteretic comparator module (302). The hysteretic comparator module (302) is configured such that any change in state of the time encoded signal at the first node is synchronised to the first clock signal (CLK1).

    Abstract: Audio content in a single-bit audio stream can be reproduced at a transducer by mapping the single-bit audio stream to symbols in a multi-bit audio stream. Volume control may be implemented, in part, in the digital domain and, in part, in the analog domain. In the digital domain, when converting the single-bit audio stream to a plurality of symbols, the plurality of symbols is selected based, at least in part, on audio content of the single-bit audio stream and a desired volume level. In the analog domain, when converting an analog current signal output from a current-steering DAC processing the plurality of symbols to an analog voltage signal, an analog gain value may be selected based, at least in part, on the desired volume level.

    Abstract: This application relates to methods and apparatus for amplification of audio signals with improved audio performance. An audio driving circuit has an amplifier module in a forward signal path between an input for receiving an input audio signal (SIN) and an output for outputting an audio driving signal (VOUT). A pre-distortion module is operable to apply a first transfer function to the signal in the forward signal path upstream of the amplifier module, wherein the first transfer function comprises a non-linear distortion function based on at least one distortion setting. An error block is arranged to receive a first signal (SFF) derived from the input signal and a second signal (SFB) indicative of the voltage of the audio driving signal and determine a first error signal (ε1) indicative of a difference between the first and second signals. The pre-distortion module is operable to control the distortion setting(s) based on the first error signal.

    Abstract: A method of mixing microphone signals. First and second microphone signals are obtained from respective first and second microphones. In at least one affected subband, the first and second microphone signals are mixed to produce first and second mixed signals. At least one reference subband of the first and second microphone signals is processed in order to identify a binaural cue between the first and second microphone signals, the reference subband being distinct from the or each affected subband. The affected subband in the first and second mixed signals is modified in order to re-emphasize the identified binaural cue.

    Abstract: A digital circuit arrangement for an ambient noise-reduction system affording a higher degree of noise reduction than has hitherto been possible. The arrangement converts the analog signals into N-bit digital signals at sample rate f0, and then subjects the converted signals to digital filtering. The value of N in some embodiments is 1 but, in any event, is no greater than 8, and f0 may be 64 times the Nyquist sampling rate but, in any event, is substantially greater than the Nyquist sampling rate. This permits digital processing to be used without incurring group delay problems that rule out the use of conventional digital processing in this context. Furthermore, adjustment of the group delay can readily be achieved, in units of a fraction of a micro-second, providing the ability to fine tune the group delay for feed forward applications.

    Abstract: A device (10) for connection to an audio accessory (20) comprising: a jack socket (14) for connection to a jack plug (25) of the audio accessory (20), a ground connection to a first socket contact (428) which is positioned to mate with a ground return pole of the plug (25). The jack socket (14) comprises a second contact (432) also positioned to mate with the ground return pole of the plug (25). Driver amplifiers (416, 418) comprise an input coupled to the second contact (432) and are configured to superimpose a signal present at the second contact (432) onto received speaker signal. It may achieve reducing the crosstalk which could distort or blur the stereo image.
