Abstract:
A method of forming a color filter is provided. The method includes providing a mixture of a color filter material and a compressed fluid; providing at least a partially controlled environment for retaining a substrate, the at least partially controlled environment being in fluid communication with the mixture of the color filter material and the compressed fluid; providing a shadow mask in close proximity to the substrate retained in the at least partially controlled environment; and chargably releasing the mixture of the color filter material and the compressed fluid into the at least partially controlled environment, wherein the color filter material becomes free of the compressed fluid prior to contacting the substrate at locations defined by the shadow mask thereby forming a patterned deposition on the substrate.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for coating sheet material with thermoset material. In certain embodiments, first and second different induction furnaces are provided, with the coated sheet first proceeding into and through the first furnace, and then into and through the second furnace. The first furnace may be maintained at a temperature less than the second furnace, so that out-gassing of volatile materials is achieved in the first furnace and thereafter heightened cross-linking conversation rates are achieved in the second furnace at higher temperature(s).
Abstract:
A fiber planted steel sheet obtained by forming only a fiber planting layer having excellent adhesion to a substrate made from a composition having special composition on the surface of a surface treated steel sheet as a substrate without forming a primer of a polyester synthetic resin containing an anticorrosive pigment and the like and electrostatically planting short fibers in the planting layer. Therefore, the electrostatically fiber planted steel sheet is produced by coating an aqueous adhesive composition for planting fibers comprising an emulsion resin having a glass transition temperature of null40 to 40null C., aqueous coloring pigment dispersion, defoamer and pH modifier on the surface of the surface treated steel sheet to form a fiber planting layer having excellent adhesion to the steel sheet on the surface of the steel sheet and electrostatically planting short fibers while the surface of the planting layer retains adhesion.
Abstract:

The method steps comprise essentially: (a) machining a soft metal tooling base so as to contour at least one free-form surface in conformity with the computer model; (b) cold-gas dynamic spraying the contoured surface to form superimposed impact welded metal particle layers, the layers consisting of at least one thermal management under-layer comprising primarily copper, and at least an outer wear resistant layer comprising primarily tool steel.
Abstract:
A corrosion resistant tube comprises a metal tube having an outer surface. A zinc layer is electrostatically bonded to the outer surface, wherein the zinc layer is selected from the group consisting of powdered zinc, powdered zinc nickel alloys, powdered zinc cobalt alloys, and powdered zinc aluminum alloys. One or more polymeric layers may be electrostatically bonded to the zinc layer, or to a surface treatment layer, wherein the polymeric layer(s) comprises powdered thermoplastic materials selected from the group consisting of powdered nylons, powdered fluoropolymers, powdered polyesters, and mixtures thereof. Optionally, the polymeric layer(s) may be electrostatically bonded directly to the outer surface. A process for producing corrosion resistant tubing may also contain the steps of electrostatically charging aerated particles of a powdered material in a fluidizing chamber and conveying grounded metal tubing through the charged particles, thereby uniformly coating the tubing outer surface, and heating the coated tubing.
Abstract:
A computer-based system for producing a multi-color multilayer image on a substrate using multi-colored cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) pigment materials made from CLC flakes tuned to predetermined bands of color. A computer-controlled image generator automatically generates an image specifying a pattern over which binder material is to be applied to a substrate by a binder material applicator. A plurality of CLC pigment applicators automatically apply patterns of different-color CLC pigment material to a pattern of binder material applied to the substrate, binding thereto as the binder material dries. An output device is used to automatically return the substrate to a different one of CLC pigment applicators after each application of a pattern of different-color CLC pigment material to the pattern of binder material. The output device automatically repeats the return of the substrate to the CLC pigment applicators until all bands of color in the multi-color multilayer image are rendered and the multi-color multilayer image is produced.
Abstract:
A corrosion-resistant coated strap is formed from an elongated metal strap base element having a width and a thickness and defining first and second sides and a pair of edge regions. A coating is applied and cured onto the base element. The coating has a substantially consistent thickness at the first and second sides and at about the edge regions. A method for making the coated strap includes providing a metal strap and conveying the strap through a coating apparatus. A powder is electrostatically applied on the first side of the strap, which covers the first side and the opposing edges. The powder is applied on the second side of the strap, covering the second side and the opposing edges. The powder is melted to form a flowable material and is cured on the strap. The coating method is carried out in an in-line strap manufacturing process.
Abstract:
An apparatus for applying powder to at least an interior surface of a hollow object includes a powder discharge device adapted to receive powder and discharge the powder through an outlet. An object holder is configured to hold the object such that the outlet is positioned within the hollow object adjacent the interior surface. A rotating mechanism is configured to engage and rotate the hollow object such that the powder discharged from the outlet coats the interior surface as the interior surface rotates past the outlet. The powder discharge device may be a powder fluidizing bed unit including a chamber with a powder discharge opening in the form of an elongate slot.
Abstract:
A zinc coating directly covers a bare ferrous base of parking meter housing parts. A non-epoxy thermosetting electrically insulating organic non-epoxy powder coating directly covers the zinc coating. The organic coating is directly applied to the zinc coating by electrostatically charging the powder and parts with opposite d.c. voltage polarities and by heating the powder so it adheres to and covers the zinc coating. Alternatively, the base is zinc, directly covered by the organic powder coating.
Abstract:
A dry powder, for example, a medicament for an inhaler, comprises elongated particles with an aspect ratio sufficient to cause the particles to be bound to a preferably metal or non-metallic sheet material substrate at the particle tips by electrostatic deposition and for aligning a plurality of particles with their major axes aligned normal to the, substrate and oriented tip-to-tip. Particles deposited form a low density, high relative void deposition to minimize attractive forces between the particles. This minimizes agglomeration and bonding forces to the substrate facilitating the release of a powdered medicament in an inhaler. Medicament dosages in a substrate pocket are covered by a sealing layer. An embodiment of a drug dosage inhaler substrate and inhaler is disclosed.
