Abstract:
A gas injector for the direct injection of gaseous fuel into a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, including a valve seat, a valve needle, which in response to a lift releases a first cross-sectional area at the valve seat, and a gas control region, which is situated at the valve needle and defines a second cross-sectional area together with a component surrounding the valve needle, and in response to a lift, a change in the first cross-sectional area at the valve seat differs from a change in the second cross-sectional area at the gas control region.
Abstract:
A valve device for conveying a liquid includes a housing, a valve needle which is arranged such that it can be deflected in a valve-needle chamber of the housing, and a drive device for the valve needle, wherein the drive device comprises an electric drive component which brings about a direct deflection of the valve needle. Furthermore, the drive device includes a hydraulic drive component which can be activated in addition to the electric drive component and brings about a ballistic deflection of the valve needle.
Abstract:
A fuel injector is provided that creates variable spray characteristics to effectively reduce emissions, such as NOx emissions and particulate matter. The injector includes a nozzle valve element of the outwardly opening type including a fuel delivery passage and spray holes. The nozzle valve element is operable to move to a low lift position to cause fuel flowing from the spray holes to impinge on the injector body and to deflect toward the combustion chamber, and to move to a high lift position to cause fuel flowing from the spray holes to avoid impingement on injector body and flow in an obstructed manner directly into the combustion chamber. An annular chamber may be formed in the nozzle valve element adjacent the spray holes to receive fuel.
Abstract:
A fuel injector is coupled to an engine. The fuel injector includes an injection opening configured to vary in cross-section between a open state and a fully closed state. The fuel injector is configured to provide a plurality of discrete commanded fuel injections into an engine cylinder by modulating the size of the injection opening without completely closing the opening to the fully closed state.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A fuel-injection system in an internal-combustion engine is provided with an electroinjector (1) comprising an injection nozzle (5), and a needle (7) mobile along an opening stroke and a closing stroke for opening/closing the nozzle (5) under the control of an electroactuator device (8). The opening stroke of the needle (7) is controlled by a rod (14) pushed by the pressure of the fuel in a control chamber (15), in such a way as to keep the needle (7) normally in the position for closing the nozzle (5). The control chamber (15) is equipped with an inlet duct (18) having a pre-set diameter (D4) and with an outlet passage (24) having a diameter (D5) and controlled by a control valve (16). The method for controlling fuel injection comprises the steps of choosing the ratio (D5/D4) of the aforesaid diameters so as to determine a certain rate of displacement of the needle (7), and issuing to the device (8) a first electrical command (C1) and a second electrical command (C2) sufficiently close to one another to displace the needle (7) with a profile of motion (P) without any discontinuities in time.
Abstract:
An arrangement in the fuel injection system for controlling the fuel injection, the arrangement comprising a body part with a space arranged therein, through which space the fuel to be injected flows during operation, the space further having an inlet opening and an outlet opening therein. The arrangement further comprises a piston means, arranged movably in the space and a flow path for creating a flow connection between the fuel inlet and the fuel outlet openings. The flow path comprises at least one throttling portion opening into the space of the body part, the cross-sectional flow area of the throttling portion being defined by the relative positions of the piston means and the body part.

Abstract:
A fuel injector incorporates a flow control into the needle valve and valve body to regulate fuel flow through the injector. The flow control defines an initial pilot fuel flow path that is closed by needle valve movement away from the nozzle seat. A primary fuel flow path requires axial movement of the needle valve through a mid-range position in which neither fuel flow paths are open. At low engine speeds, the needle valve is not driven through its mid-range position and closes prior to being driven to its fully open position, resulting in a pilot injection. At higher engine speeds, the needle valve is driven through its mid-range position eliminating a distinct pilot injection to provide only rate shaping.
