摘要： A check valve for a thermosiphoning solar energy system having a buoyant movably disposed element situated between primary and auxiliary valve seats. Under normal operating conditions flow enters the top of the valve and passes downwardly through the primary seat thereby dislodging the movable element from its seated position. The element, however, is designed to have a density greater than the fluid at high temperatures, which causes the element to lodge in the auxiliary seat to prevent the further flow of the thermosiphoning fluid.

摘要： A ball check valve is described having a fluid port, a ball moveable toward and away from the port, a seating surface surrounding the port and an elastomeric sealing element. The seating surface has a conical annular surface extending radially outwardly away from the ball and an annular ridge between the port and the conical surface. The sealing element has an outer sealing surface for contacting the conical seating surface and an annular groove for receiving the seating surface ridge. On its ball side, it has an annular outer surface and an inner sealing surface for contacting the ball. A sealing element retainer contacts the outer portion of the elastomeric sealing element outer surface on its ball side to hold it in position.

摘要： A pressurized nuclear reactor having an instrument assembly sheathed in a metallic tube which is extended vertically upward into the reactor core by traversing a metallic guide tube which is welded to the wall of the vessel. Sensors in each instrument assembly are connected to instruments outside the vessel to manifest the conditions within the core. Each instrument assembly probe is moved into position within a metallic guide channel. The guide channel penetrates the wall of the vessel and forms part of the barrier to the environment within the pressure vessel. Each channel includes a ball check valve which is opened by the instrument assembly probe when the probe passes through the valve. A ball valve element is moved from its seat by the probe to a position lateral of the bore of the channel and is guided to its seat along a sloped path within the valve body when the probe is removed.
