    摘要: Various techniques are disclosed for improving systems that include an evacuated, and in essence hermetically-sealed, fluid circuit containing a heat-transfer fluid which--while circulating, usually with the assistance of a pump, around the fluid circuit--absorbs heat, primarily by evaporation, from a heat source and releases the absorbed heat, primarily by condensation, to a heat sink; the maximum temperature of the heat sink being, at a given instant in time, lower than the maximum temperature of the heat source at that instant in time.The various techniques disclosed always furnish the fluid circuit with a property named `self-regulation`; and, where applicable, with one or more properties named `overpressure protection`, `freeze protection`, `heat-absorption control`, `heat-release control`, and `heat-source control`.Self-regulation ensures, by controlling heat-transfer flow around the fluid circuit, that the fluid circuit transfers heat efficiently over a preselected range of operating conditions comprising a preselected range of evaporation rates which includes at least two evaporation rates differing significantly from each other.

    摘要: A solar powered passive air filter system for filtering an air space polluted with particulate matter includes an elongated vertical chimney located in association with the polluted air space and in a position to be exposed to solar radiation. A duct connects the polluted air space to the base of the chimney. A filter medium is located in association with the duct for removing air pollutants from an air stream. An air stream is created in the duct by an ascending air stream in the chimney. The ascending air stream in the chimney is maintained in response to exposure of the chimney to solar radiation.

    摘要: A passive thermosiphon loop of circulating heat transport liquid transfers heat from an inclined absorber to a heat exchanger in thermal contact with a second fluid. Reverse thermosiphoning under normal conditions is prevented by a ball type check valve. Due to differences in the thermal expansion between the valve ball and the transport liquid, the valve will, however, permit reverse thermosiphoning at high temperatures.

    摘要: A unidirectional valve for use, e.g., in a thermosyphon solar heating system including a collector, a storage tank, and a liquid having a transfer portion in the collector and a storage portion in the tank, the valve comprising a partition, having a predetermined vertical extent, transversely separating the portions, the partition being transversely spaced such that the surface area of the transfer portion is much less than the surface area of the storage portion, whereby changes in the density of the transfer portion cause the surface thereof to travel vertically along the partition, permitting the transfer portion to flow around the end of the partition into the tank, but changes in the density of the storage portion cause only inconsequential movement of the surface thereof along the partition preventing flow of the storage portion around the end of the partition into the collector.
