Abstract:
A pelletizing process and pelletized product is provided using non-food or limited-feed agricultural residue, such as corn stover and soybean stubble, and for various uses, including energy production, such as ethanol or electricity generation, fuel and feed. The agricultural plant material is harvested and baled. The bales are transported to the processing site for storage or immediate processing. The bale strings are first removed, and then the broken bales are shredded. The shredded plant material is then ground to a small size. The ground material is then pelletized without the use of binding additives, to produce densified pellets of the agricultural plant material. The pellets are cooled and then stored or transported to an end user. Chemical agents may be added to depolymerize lignin in the residue material. Nutritional supplements may be added to the material before pelletizing.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods and systems for reducing moisture in mineral slurries, particularly mineral slurries containing minerals of small particle diameter, using a granular drying material. The invention also relates to novel mineral products and intermediates useful in connection with the process. The method and system reduced moisture by contacting the mineral slurry with the granular drying material. The granular drying material is selected to be readily separated from the dried minerals using a size separation technique such as a sieve screen. The granular drying material is the regenerated, preferably using a process involving heat exchange and cross-flow air. The granular drying material is preferably capable of regeneration and recycling in a continuous process with minimal attrition.
Abstract:
In a vertical roller mill in which a fixed-type cyclone sorter is provided in a casing, the fixed-type cyclone sorter includes a conical member; a fixed-blade entrance window through which a solid-gas two-phase flow is introduced into the interior of the conical member; a flat plate-like fixed blade that causes the solid-gas two-phase flow to spiral; an inner cylinder into which pulverized coal is guided from the bottom end thereof toward the top end thereof by means of spiraling of the solid-gas two-phase flow; and a pulverized-coal exit through which the pulverized coal guided to the top end of the inner cylinder is guided outside the conical member, wherein the fixed blade is provided with a tip portion where a downward flow is increased for the solid-gas two-phase flow guided into the interior of the conical member from the fixed-blade entrance window.
Abstract:
A process is provided for creating feed pellets from agricultural residue material having substantially no food value, such as corn stover. The agricultural residue material is harvested and baled for transport to a storage and processing site. The baled agricultural residue material is then shredded and ground, and one or more chemical agents are added to depolymerize the fiber (lignin-carbohydrate) matrix of the agricultural residue material. Agricultural processing byproducts such as distiller's solubles and dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS) are added to the agricultural residue material, either before or after the chemical agents are added, to form a combined material. The combined material is then pelletized into feed pellets, which may be transported and stored for later consumption by animals. The process produces a nutritionally enhanced material which is more easily digested than existing feed rations.
Abstract:
A system and method for drying, cleaning and upgrading coal and biomass solid fuel while integrating the steps with the normal on site steps in coal preparation for a utility boiler, such that boiler efficiency is improved and emissions are reduced. The present invention carefully sequences steps to employ latent heat from one step to the next and more efficiently bring the fuel up to or near ignition temperature. The present invention incorporates several previously related inventions to improve the heat content and cleanliness of the fuel, thus reducing fuel flow rate, ash, CO2, CO, NOx, sulfur, mercury, chlorine, particulate and other emissions, for the same or higher energy output.
Abstract:
A biomass pulverizing apparatus includes a pulverizing apparatus body including a feedstock supply pipe, the pulverizing apparatus body for supplying biomass feedstock from above in a vertical axial direction, a pulverizing table for placing the biomass feedstock, a drive section for rotationally driving the pulverizing table, a pulverizing roller for pulverizing the biomass feedstock by a pressing force, the pulverizing roller being operated in conjunction with the rotation of the pulverizing table, a blower unit for forming an upward flow upward from below on the outer peripheral side of the pulverizing table so as to jet conveying gas for conveying the pulverized biomass powder in an air stream, a classifier, the classifier for classifying the biomass powder accompanied with the conveying gas, and a blowing gas introduction section.
Abstract:
The present invention harvests and utilizes fluidized bed drying technology and waste heat streams augmented by other available heat sources to dry feedstock or fuel. This method is useful in many industries, including coal-fired power plants. Coal is dried using the present invention before it goes to coal pulverizers and on to the furnace/boiler arrangement to improve boiler efficiency and reduce emissions. This is all completed in a low-temperature, open-air system. Also included is an apparatus for segregating particulate by density and/or size including a fluidizing bed having a particulate receiving inlet for receiving particulate to be fluidized. This is useful for segregating contaminants like sulfur and mercury from the product stream.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an indirect heating system in which a solid fuel circulates in the form of particles. The inventive system comprises a grinding station, a furnace (7), at least one intermediate silo, a separator, at least one cyclone and, optionally, a gas recirculation fan. The invention is characterized in that a dust extractor (10) captures the finest particles which are subsequently introduced into the furnace (7) by means of at least one specific conduit (52) and burnt by at least one specific burner (71). The aforementioned ultra-fine particles are then stored in a specific silo (10), dosed into a feeding device (61), mixed in well defined proportions with hot air and conveyed to the specific burner (71) through the specific conduit (52).

Abstract:
A centrifugal bowl separator, including a bowl, a source of pressurized gas in selective flow communication with the bowl and operable to selectively supply pressurized gas to an interior portion of the bowl, and first and second pressure seals selectively established to provide a zone within a portion of the bowl such that when the pressurized gas is introduced, pressure within the portion of the bowl increases for enhanced removal of moisture and drying of solids within the portion of the bowl.
