摘要: The present invention relates to a low cost process for providing equivalent or superior ballistic resistance performance compared to standard Ti-6Al-4V alloys. The present inventions process involves increasing the oxygen content of Ti-6Al-4V beyond the conventional limit of 0.20% maximum reported for prior art compounds and subsequently thereafter heating the oxygen rich titanium alloy at temperatures within the beta phase field for further processing.Additionally, the present invention provides a novel Ti-6Al-4V alloy composition which exhibits improved tensile and yield strength properties. Titanium compositions of the present invention exhibit improved ballistic properties compared to titanium compositions previously disclosed in the art. The novel Ti-6Al-4V composition of the present invention is obtained by modifying the alloy composition limits to 5.5 to 6.75% Al, 3.5 to 4.5% V, 0.20 to 0.30% O.sub.2,

摘要: An infantry attack vehicle having a propelling motor, a transmission and a flexable endless track similar to the conventional snowmobile. A rubber tired front wheel or wheels for stearing the vehicle, a cushion to accomodate two infantrymen, a removable supply and ammunition container, a towing cable with two hooks, one for towing the other for removing wire entanglement. A trailer hitch for pulling a supply trailer and for transporting casualties to the hospital copter. Resilient armor around the front portion of the vehicle, and a removable side panel of resilient armor that can be shifted to either side of the vehicle depending on which side is exposed to the enemy.

摘要: An armor system includes an appliqué comprising a high fluid retaining material (HFRM) and a plate configured to hold the appliqué against a compartment, wherein the armor system is adapted so that upon impact of a blast wave upon the plate, the HFRM is vented away from the compartment. The armor system may be adapted to a vehicle. In another embodiment, an armor system includes a plate operably connected to a plunger, one or more rods of brittle material operably contained within a tube, wherein the armor system is adapted so that upon impact of a blast shock wave upon the plate, the plate transfers the blast shock wave to the plunger and then to the contents of the tube. Optionally, the tube also contains HFRM.

摘要: An armor plated assembly (20) and a protective wall system (120) containing a protective material. The armor plated assembly (20) comprises of a container (22) having opposing walls (26) for encompassing the protective material. The assembly (20) includes an armor device (24) having a first plate (48) and a second plate (50) with one of the opposing walls (26) sandwiched between the first plate (48) and the second plate (50) securing the armor device (24) to the container (22). The armor device (24) impedes the penetration of a projectile through the armor plated assembly (20). The protective wall system (120) includes at least two of the armor plated assemblies (20) with a mechanical connection (140) between the armor devices (126, 134) of the armor plated assemblies (20) for aligning and securing the assemblies (20) in a stacked orientation. A second embodiment of the protective wall system (220) includes at least two containers (222, 234) and a bib (232, 236) adhered to each of the containers (222, 234) such that the bibs (232, 236) overlap in a shingle-like engagement between the stacked containers (222, 234).

摘要: Methods for forming armored glass cylinders suitable for improving resistance of armor to armor piercing rounds, explosively formed penetrators, or other threats. Cool a cylindrical glass or ceramic element to a temperature below that of a cylindrical casing, place the cylindrical glass or ceramic element into the cylindrical casing while the cylindrical glass or ceramic element is cool, and seal the cylindrical casing and allow the temperature of the cylindrical glass or ceramic element to rise, such that the cylindrical casing compresses the cylindrical glass or ceramic element. Alternately, heat a metal cylindrical casing, press glass or ceramic into the cylinder while the metal cylinder is at an elevated temperature, seal the metal cylindrical casing while metal cylindrical casinger is at an elevated temperature, and allow the metal cylinder to cool, such that when cooled, the cylindrical casing will compress the glass in all directions.
