Abstract:
A circuit breaker having a safe construction, where no electrically charged portions are exposed in an accessory installation area or anywhere outside a main circuit case even if a cover of the circuit breaker is opened in a live condition. In order to achieve above object, the circuit breaker of this invention includes the main circuit case made of an insulating material, and an opening-closing trip mechanism disposed outside of the main circuit case and electrically insulated from the main circuit. According to this invention, a circuit breaker capable of eliminating the risk of an electric shock, thereby providing the excellent safety can be obtained.
Abstract:
A pressure sensitive trip mechanism for actuating a circuit breaker operating mechanism to trip a circuit breaker includes a trip lever and a trip bar. The trip lever is rotatable about a first pivot. The trip bar is positioned proximate the trip lever. The trip bar is arranged to rotate about a second pivot in response to a predetermined level of pressurized gas created by separation of the pair of electrical contacts, thereby urging the trip lever to unlatch the circuit breaker operating mechanism. The pressure sensitive trip mechanism provides for very fast tripping of the circuit breaker in the event of a short circuit condition or an overcurrent fault condition within any one on the circuit breaker poles. In a multi-pole circuit breaker, the present invention provides for protection against single-phasing.
Abstract:
A multipole circuit breaker includes an arcing chamber housing with a number of arcing chambers, corresponding to the number of poles, arranged next to each other. Each arcing chamber has a hinged contact bridge cooperating with a stationary contact arrangement. An interrupter shaft common to the poles of the multipole circuit breaker and including a number of shaft segments made of an insulating material, in each of which a contact bridge is arranged, is provided. The adjoining shaft segments are joined to each other by a respective coupling element, each coupling element including two tab-shaped parts joined to each other by a support shaft. Each tab-shaped part supports at least two first connecting pins on a side facing away from the support shaft and extending in an axial direction. The shaft segments each include recesses a side facing the coupling element, the recesses for receiving the connecting pins. A support, or bearing, for supporting the support shaft is provided in the arcing chamber housing in a transition area between adjacent arcing chambers.
Abstract:
A circuit interrupter with an accessory case socket into which an accessory bell alarm member is disposed. A two-piece lever arrangement is provided in the bell alarm accessory case between the micro-switch button thereof and the operating mechanism of the circuit breaker. In the first stage of operation the operating mechanism rotates the entire two-piece member as a unit until the bell alarm button has been completely depressed, after which overtravel of the operating mechanism is accommodated by rotational movement of only one of the members on a common axis against the force of a hub located torsion spring.
Abstract:
Two molded case electrical switches such as circuit breakers, network protectors, disconnect switches and transfer switches, are secured together side-by-side by joining blocks having tongues extending along their sidewalls which engage undercutting grooves undercutting the irregular surfaces of the confronting sidewalls of the switch molded casings with an interference fit. Separate joining blocks for the front and rear sections of the molded casing are driven into place and retained by bolts engaging flanges on the molded casing. The poles are paralleled by external conductors in any desired configuration so that the standard switches can be used without customization.
Abstract:
A modular crossbar arrangement for molded case circuit breakers allows a plurality of contact arm assemblies to be interconnected from a single modular unit. To provide increased acceleration to the movable contact arms a contact arm accelerator lever interfaces with the contact arm and crossbar assembly. To promote further acceleration of the movable contact arms to their closed positions, the movable contact arms in a multi-pole circuit breaker are staggered with respect to their rotational alignment within each pole on the crossbar assembly.
Abstract:
A multi-pole circuit breaker is formed from a modular array of single-pole circuit breakers. The individual circuit breaker operating handles are ganged together by means of a handle connector placed over the individual circuit breaker operating handles. The handle connector has a U-shaped central part flanked by a pair of C-shaped parts disposed on the outside portions thereof to facilitate switching the individual operating handles in unison.
Abstract:
A four-pole circuit breaker has an operating mechanism associated with one of the intermediate main poles, so as to take up an asymmetrical position with respect to the layout of the four poles. The mechanism has springs similar to those of a three-pole breaker. The transverse tie bar is common to the three main poles and is mechanically coupled to a kinetic linkage controlling the fourth pole, so as to bring about the closure of the contacts of the fourth pole before the closure of the contacts of the main poles upon closing of the breaker, in order to match the four-pole load torque to the three-pole motor torque of the mechanism.
Abstract:
A non-removable handle tie is connected to a pair of push-push type circuit breakers arranged in back-to-back relationship. The handle tie includes a central finger engageable portion and oppositely extending offset sections entered into cavities of the circuit breakers through rear openings into the cavities. Both the stamped metal and molded plastic constructions for the handle tie are loosely connected to the circuit breaker handles to permit tilting of the handle tie when both handles are not in corresponding positions, yet this connection permits simultaneous manual operation of both circuit breakers. In the molded resilient construction of the handle tie the unit is formed so as to experience controlled bending when the handles are not in corresponding positions. However, when the handle tie is depressed for manual operation, the handle tie exhibits rigidity in transmitting operating forces.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a moving element for a low voltage switching device and to a switching device comprising this moving element. The moving element according to the invention comprises for each pole a housing unit suitable to receive an elastic element which interacts with an electrical contact. This latter comprises a first contact portion susceptible to contact a further electrical contact and a second portion connectable to a conductive element of the switching device. The electrical contact comprises a pin shaped portion positioned rotating in a seat defined on the housing unit so as to configure a mutual rotation axis of the electrical contact with respect to the housing unit.
