    摘要: An improved process for shaping the edge of a combustion chamber recess in the piston head of a finish-machined light-alloy piston is disclosed wherein the piston is moved past the oscillating charged carrier beam at an angle of inclination of 40.degree. to 50.degree., the charged carrier beam is caused to act on that portion of the rim of the combustion chamber recess which is to be refined by being remelted and the charged carrier rays are moved over said portion only once. The process presents the formation of cracks at the edge of the chamber.

    摘要: Age-hardenable alloy parts having melting points in excess of 1000.degree. C., in particular high temperature superalloys, characterized by the presence of such structural defects as cast micropores, and/or grain boundary voids or internal microcracks resulting from high temperature service, are improved in mechanical properties by subjecting said parts to hot isostatic pressure in an autoclave at selected elevated solution temperatures in excess of 50% of the absolute melting point of the alloy and superatmospheric pressures sufficient to remove substantially said defects followed by rapidly cooling the parts in situ from the selected temperature while maintaining the parts under superatmospheric pressure in the autoclave.

    摘要: A method of improving steel-backed antifriction alloy; composite strips and products therefrom, wherein the antifriction alloys previously deposited on the steel backing strip are subjected throughout the strip length to a spot-by-spot fusion operation performed by a highly-concentrated energy beam (electron or other), the intensity and displacement rate of said beam being adjusted in respect of the composite strip in such a manner as to afford a spot-by-spot fusion of the anti-friction alloys to a depth equal to the anti-friction layer thickness; and a method wherein concentration of said energy beam is adjusted so as to enable the mass surrounding any given melting spot to cause an abrupt cooling of said spot when the energy beam is moved to an adjoining spot.

    摘要: The effective transition temperature from martensite to austenite in a dimensionally heat-recoverable memory metal member can be temporarily raised by applying a stress and maintaining the applied stress at a temperature below the raised transition temperature so that the memory metal remains substantially in the martensitic state. When it is desired to utilize the member the stress is removed at a temperature above the original transition temperature. The applied stress is advantageously maintained by a disburdenable keeper. In an especially preferred embodiment the keeper comprises an aluminium tube positioned within a band or tube made from a brass memory alloy, the combined article being suitable as a connector for hydraulic pipes and the like.
