    摘要: A method is provided for transporting a plurality of cells through a flow chamber, wherein the cells are initially immobilized on an internal surface of the flow chamber. The method comprises: selectively releasing the cells from the internal surface of the flow chamber; and flowing liquid through the flow chamber such that the released cells travel with the liquid, thereby transporting the cells through the flow chamber. Cells can be immobilized on or selectively released from the internal surface by applying or removing a trapping potential. The trapping potential can arise from an electric field gradient or an optical field gradient. Alternatively, cells can be selectively released from the surface using photocatalysis. Selective release allows cells to be individually observed or analyzed downstream, and can be based on a signal detected from one or more cells immobilized on the surface.

    摘要: Techniques for forming a metal oxide from a metal substrate are disclosed. In some embodiments, the metal oxide can have an optical path difference between about 300 nm to about 1000 nm. The variations in optical path difference can impart the metal oxide to correspond to a range of pre-defined colors. In some embodiments, the optical path difference can impart the metal oxide to have an oxide color that is substantially similar to a color of a housing of a portable electronic device. In some embodiments, the metal oxide can be electrically conductive and the metal oxide can be utilized as an electrical contact of an electronic device to transmit and receive power and data from another electronic device.

    摘要: A replacement knee implant has a femoral implant and a tibial implant, each of which are inset in a bone surface. The tibial implant is generally elongated with one end rounded and an opposite end conforming to the shape of the tibia, and is made of a metal alloy or a ceramic. The upper surface is dished while the lower surface is planar and can be parallel or sloped relative to the upper surface, and can have a keel for fixation. The femoral implant for implementation in a femoral condyle is rounded such that, when implemented, the femoral implant is flush at the anterior and posterior sides and protruding away from the femur between the anterior and posterior ends. The femoral implant can have an elongated keel for extending into the femur, and can be made from a highly cross-linked polyethylene.

Each module includes fluid connections to other modules and a microcontroller joining the module to a computed and monitor through an electronic connector at each mounting site. The fluid connections between the modules and the column(s) are removed from the electronic connections and accessible to the user. A software platform may recognize the modules and their locations, coordinate fluid connections between the modules, and provide a variety of control, monitoring, data generating and data processing functions to generate chromatographic data. The software platform may also provide graphical tools for designing chromatographic methods from a library of phases.

The haptic device includes a flexible surface layer, a haptic substrate, and a deforming mechanism. The flexible surface layer is made of elastic materials and is capable of reconfiguring its surface characteristics. The haptic substrate, in one embodiment, provides a first pattern in response to a first activating signal. Alternatively, the haptic substrate is capable of providing a second pattern in accordance with a second activating signal. The deforming mechanism is configured to change the flexible surface from a first surface characteristic to a second surface characteristic in accordance with the first pattern.
