A completely electronic circuit operating from the respective outputs of a motor speed transducer and a transmission input speed transducer and from other inputs which are usually constant voltages calculates a control signal for moving the control member of an automatic clutch for coupling a vehicle motor to a vehicle transmission during slipping engagement of the clutch until gripping engagement is made in such a way as to minimize the jolt effect without the necessity of hydraulic or mechanical damping devices.

In a hydraulic transmission in which couplings and brake bands (servo-elements) control the gear ratio and are themselves engaged and disengaged in accordance with pressure applied thereto, a motor-driven slider is provided to connect a main pressure source directly to servo-elements which will remain engaged in the newly selected gear ratio. Solenoid operated valves are interposed between the main pressure source and a second intake port of the slider. Milled channels in the slider connect this second intake port to the servo-elements to be newly engaged during the gear shift. A known gear control unit operates the valves to control the rate of change of pressure increase at the second intake port to a selected value which will limit the jolt of the vehicle to a predetermined maximum jolt.

The fuel supply apparatus for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine has a fuel tank (2), a first fuel pump (6) that supplies fuel from the fuel tank to a fuel line (10), a second fuel pump (12) that supplies fuel from the fuel line (10) via a pressurized line to at least one fuel valve (16) and a fuel return line (22) that connects the fuel line (10) to the fuel tank for return of excess fuel. A shut off valve (30), which is closed at high temperatures, and a pressure regulator valve (26) are arranged hydraulically in series in the fuel return line (22). A fuel scavenger line (60) is provided, by which fuel at high temperatures is returned to the fuel tank (2). The fuel scavenger line (60) conducts the fuel back to the fuel tank (2), at least partially through the second fuel pump (12) and through a hydraulic resistance. Gas bubble formation is prevented by a high fuel supply pressure and by transfer of heat from the second fuel pump (12).

A fuel system serves to supply fuel to an internal combustion engine includes a reservoir and a first fuel pump whose input is connected to the reservoir and a second fuel pump whose input is connected to the first fuel pump. At least one injection valve is connected to the second fuel pump and can supply fuel at least indirectly to a combustion chamber. A leakage line is provided between the second fuel pump and the reservoir. In order to permit a reliable hot start of the engine with a simultaneously low strain on the components, the leakage line is provided with a valve device which has a shutoff function and a pressure relief function that are connected in parallel with each other.

A fuel supply system with two series-connected fuel pumps including a control valve, which is relatively small, and having a very precise regulation of the quantity of fuel pumped from the first pump into a pressure line by the second fuel pump is obtained at little effort or expense. The present invention relates to an injection valve, in particular to the injection valve for a direct injection of fuel into a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine. The injection valve includes a valve body mounted in a housing, the valve body having a valve opening surrounded by a valve seat. A valve needle is provided with a closing head extending through the valve opening so that the closing head cooperates with the valve seat to snugly fit into valve seat on the injection discharge side. The valve needle is prestressed by a closing spring into a closing position and moved by an actuating mechanism through an actuating element against the force of the closing spring into an open position. To allow the injection valve to open quickly, the actuating element is closely engaged with the valve needle using a spring acting in the direction of the open position.

In a process and device for controlling an internal combustion engine, a fuel pump delivers fuel from a low-pressure area to a high-pressure area. The fuel can be delivered by activating injectors of the combustion chambers of the internal combustion engine. The pressure of the fuel in the high-pressure area is regulated to a predefinable value using a regulating means. The regulating means is activated immediately prior to and/or during the time when the injectors are activated to increase the pressure.
