    摘要: A novel process for preparation of block copolymers containing, for example, alpha-methyl-styrene/styrene glassy blocks is claimed, where the glassy blocks contain 25-50 mol % alpha-methyl-styrene and have Tg values in the range of 120 to 140° C. The copolymerization process, which is conducted at 35 to 60° C. and relatively high solids contents and with continuous addition of styrene, results in very high conversions of the alpha-methyl-styrene. Selectively hydrogenated block copolymers having high glassy block Tg values are also disclosed and claimed as well as high service temperature elastomeric compositions comprising the block copolymer and an olefin polymer of copolymer.

    摘要: Disclosed is a process for preparing polymers and copolymer blocks of conjugated dienes with high amounts of branching, commonly referred to as vinyl content, comprising the use of at least two microstructure control agents. One of the microstructure control agents can be a bulk microstructure control agents such as diethyl ether. The other microstructure control agent is a specific microstructure control agent such as 1,2-diethoxypropane. The use of a bulk and a specific microstructure control agent together can allow for the production of high levels of vinyl content at high polymerization rates without the undesirable affects experienced with either one alone.

    摘要: Disclosed is a process for coupling styrenic block copolymers comprising admixing vinyl cyclohexene dioxide with a living block copolymer comprising at least one block of polymerized vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon monomers and at least one block of polymerized conjugated diene monomers, at a molar ratio of from 0.40 to 0.60 and carrying out a coupling reaction at a temperature of at least 65° C. to produce a coupled styrenic block copolymer. Also disclosed is a polymer composition comprising at most 30% by weight of a styrenic block copolymer comprising at least one block A of polymerized vinyl aromatic monomer(s) and at least one block B of polymerized conjugated diene(s) and at least 70% by weight of the styrenic block copolymer coupled with vinyl cyclohexene dioxide.

    摘要: A thermoplastic polymer which possesses excellent mechanical properties at both room and elevated temperatures is obtained by reacting an acyl sulfate with a block copolymer composed of at least one conjugated diene block and one alkenyl arene block. The block copolymer is first selectively hydrogenated and thereafter modified by grafting sulfonic acid functional groups primarily in the alkenyl arene blocks. The mechanical properties may be varied and controlled by varying the degree of functionalization (amount of sulfonation), and the degree of neutralization of the sulfonic acid groups to metal sulfonate salts.
