摘要： A wafer grinding method is disclosed, in which only a region, corresponding to a device formation region, of the back side of a wafer is ground in rough grinding conducted first, while the part surrounding the region thus ground is left unground as an annular projected part, to prevent the outer peripheral edge of the wafer from becoming knife edge-like in shape. In the subsequent finish grinding, the annular projected part is ground and, further, the whole area of the back side of the wafer is ground to be flat. Chippings of the outer peripheral edge may be generated only during the finish grinding, whereby the chippings are prevented from occurring or limited to minute ones.

摘要： A termite-controlling layer is formed with a particulate hardenable termite-controlling composition which comprises a hydraulic material, a soil and/or a termiticide, on an area to be treated. The soil may comprise a gravel component and a fine grain component, and the weight ratio of the gravel component relative to the fine grain component may be about 99.9/0.1 to 5/95. The fine grain component may comprise a sand component and a dirt component, and the weight ratio of the sand component relative to the dirt component may be about 99/1 to 10/90. The hardenable termite-controlling composition may further comprise a biocidal component, a deodorant component, or a humidity-conditioning component. In a termite-controlling process, the termite-controlling layer may be formed by laying the hardenable termite-controlling composition on the area to be treated, and applying at least a water to the laid hardenable termite-controlling composition. The use of the composition can effectively control termites in an underfloor area of a wooden building or a park.

摘要： A DVD recorder includes a control portion operating in response to a signal received from a monitor portion of a hard disk device and indicating how many times writing a data signal is retried. If the current retry count is at least a predetermined number of times the control portion turns on a cooling fan device. If the current retry count is smaller than the predetermined number of times the control portion turns off the cooling fan device. As a signal output from the hard disk device can be utilized to control the cooling fan device, the apparatus can be less costly than that provided with a separate, dedicated temperature sensor, as conventional.

For determining the body fat of a user to be examined, the body fat meter equipped television remote controller registers the physical data including the weight and the height of the user, measures the impedance across the body of the user, and transmits to a television receiver a body fat measurement signal which carries the physical data and the impedance measurement. The television receiver calculates the body fat of the user from the physical data and the impedance measurement carried on the body fat measurement signal and displays a resultant calculation of the body fat on its display provided for displaying images of the existing television broadcasting.
