摘要: The present invention provides an improved, commercially available organic working fluid, which is operable under a broad range of temperatures, is thermally stable, has a high auto-ignition temperature, low freezing point and high critical temperature and is benign to the environment, and safe for human use. Such an organic working fluid is useful in organic Rankine cycle (ORC) power plants or units and other systems of the like; as an intermediate fluid for heat-recovery wherein heat from various heat sources is transferred using the intermediate fluid to a further working fluid and converted into work, and the intermediate fluid is also exploited to produce electricity. Such organic working fluids are also operable as heat transfer fluids either in ORC power plants or units or in other heat transfer systems. For this purpose the present invention presents a working fluid comprising at least one highly branched, heavy iso-paraffin hydrocarbons, or a mixture of two or more of such hydrocarbons. Preferably, at least one highly branched iso-paraffin hydrocarbon is present as the major component (i.e. at least 50% by volume) in the working fluid. A preferred sub-class of the class of the branched iso-paraffins which are suitable to be incorporated in organic working fluids of the present invention includes 8 to 20 carbon atom-containing hydrocarbons having at least one methyl radical (CH3) arranged to achieve a highly stable compound.

摘要: Apparatus for utilizing geothermal fluid comprising a two-phase mixture of geothermal steam and brine produced by a production well, includes an input conduit connecting the production well with the separator which separates the geothermal fluid into high pressure geothermal steam and geothermal brine. A connecting conduit connects the separator to a geothermal power plant which produces power from the high pressure geothermal steam. The input conduit is shorter than said connecting conduit to reduce pressure losses due to two-phase flow in the input conduit. The geothermal power plant includes a topping steam turbine coupled to a generator, and a flow control mechanism for applying the high pressure geothermal steam to the topping steam turbine which is constructed and arranged to drive the generator and produce exhaust steam at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure. A secondary separator receives the exhaust steam and produces condensate and dry low pressure steam which is applied to a condensing steam turbine coupled to a generator for producing power and exhaust steam that is below atmospheric pressure. The flow control system is effective to maintain a substantially constant flow rate of geothermal steam through he power plant in the face of decreasing pressure of the geothermal fluid.

摘要: A hydrocarbon source feed is upgraded using a solvent deasphalting (SDA) unit employing a solvent having a critical temperature Tc by initially separating from a first hydrocarbon input stream fractions with an atmospheric equivalent boiling temperature less than about Tf° F. for producing a stream of Tf−fractions and a residue stream (Tf+ stream), where Tf is greater than about Tc−50° F. In the SDA unit, a second hydrocarbon input stream which includes the residue stream is deasphalted for producing a first product stream of substantially solvent-free asphaltenes, and a second product stream containing substantially solvent-free deasphalted oil (DAO). The source feed may be included in either the first or second input streams. The DAO in the second product stream is thermally cracked for producing an output stream that includes thermally cracked fractions and by-product asphaltenes produced by thermally cracking the DAO. Finally, at least some the said thermally cracked fractions are included in the first input stream.

摘要: Turbulence is controlled in boundary layer or wall-bounded fluid flow fields having a turbulent wall region characterized by a system of roll pairs extending in the direction of flow, and obliquely propagating structures interacting with the system of roll pairs, by locally introducing into the turbulent wall region two separate disturbances that are effective to produce, in a local region, a composite disturbance field that is strongly coupled to and modifies the obliquely propagating structures in a manner that increases or decreases the interaction of the propagating structures with the system of roll pairs thereby locally increasing or decreasing the turbulence in the flow field. One of the disturbances may result from the interaction of the fluid with a linear strip, or an array of strips, of delta-shaped protrusions positioned spanwise on the wall (i.e., transverse to the flow direction); and the second disturbance may result from injecting sonic energy into the local region. Furthermore, a linear strip or an array of airfoil shaped protrusions can be used for producing a pair of counter rotating rolls for controlling turbulence in the boundary layer.
