The invention provides an optical film comprising a transparent support with an antireflection layer substantially conformed in shape to the surface underlying the layer, the antireflection layer containing a binder polymer having dispersed polymer particles which are nanovoided so as to have a surface area greater than 50 m2/gm and which fill 64% or less of the layer volume. The film provides improved anti-reflection without the expected increase in transmission haze.

A ribbed module is provided having a ribbed exterior surface defining a plurality of grooves and channels along the surface for receiving water and directing the water in a direction different from that in which it is received to reduce wave energy. The module is formed as a single integral unit, or as a pair of halves having complementary mating locking elements which when engaged join the halves to form the ribbed module. A buoyancy system is also included to adjust the buoyancy of the module for positioning of same at a select position in the water. A plurality of modules are connected to provide breakwaters which reduce the effects of wave action on the shore.

The present invention is generally directed to a process for producing lactide-based polymers and the polymers produced by this process. The polymers of the present invention are terpolymers formed by the copolymerization of a lactide monomer, a linking monomer and an epoxy-terminated monomer. In one embodiment of the invention, the polymers may be formed from fluorine-containing monomers or aromatic ring-containing monomers. The disclosed materials may display improved hydrolytic and thermal characteristics as compared to previously known lactide-based materials. For example, the lactide based terpolymers may have a glass transition temperature over 60° C. For instance, lactide-based thermoplastic terpolymers of the present invention can have a glass transition temperatures of about 80° C. or higher. Lactide-based thermoset networks of the invention can have glass transition temperatures of up to about 200° C.

The apparatus 115 comprises a chamber, such as a load-lock chamber 110, transfer chamber 115, or process chamber 120. An integrated pump 165 is abutting or adjacent to one of the chambers 110, 115, 120 for evacuating gas from the chambers. In operation, the pump is located within the actual envelope or footprint of the apparatus and has an inlet 170 connected to a chamber 110, 115, 120, and an outlet 175 that exhausts the gas to atmospheric pressure. Preferably, the integrated pump 165 comprises a pre-vacuum pump or a low vacuum pump and is housed in a noise reducing enclosure having means for moving the pump between locations and means for stacking pumps vertically in use.

A method of emergency smoke inhalation protection of fire fighters in imminent life-threatening situations includes configuring a canister containing a filter medium to evidence use. The canister has an opening through which air enters and has a coupling for attachment to the mask of a standard self contained breathing apparatus in place of a connection to an air tank. When so connected, air drawn into the mask passes through the filter medium within said canister. A use-evidencing mechanism is operatively connected to the canister to indicate use of the air filtering system. This mechanism can be non-reusable covers applied over the opening and coupling, or a sealed package containing the air filtering system. Such devices provide an indication of previous use of the filtering system and inhibit a fire fighter from using the system in an unauthorized manner.
