    摘要: Fastener installation apparatus for operating cylically so as to instal successively a plurality of fasteners of the type in which a portion is broken off at installation (e.g. breakstem blind rivets) comprises a fastener installation head (11) and a pipe (31) for conveying the broken-off portions away from the head to a receptacle (15). Detection device (48) is mounted adjacent the pipe (31) to detect the presence of a broken-off fastener portion at a pre-determined position (58) there along near the receptacle (15). When a portion is thus sensed, an electrical signal is sent by the detection device (48), via a relay (51), to the installation control system (14a, 14b), so as to allow cyclical operation of the system to continue.

    摘要: A blind fastener of the type having a fastener body, a threaded stem and a sleeve is provided with a deformable drive nut in abutting contact with the fastener body to provide a positive mechanical engagement between the abutting surfaces of the two elements. The underside of the drive nut has an annular ridge made of a deformable material adapted to deform into indentations in the outer surface of the fastener body. The positive mechanical engagement between the two elements minimizes the build-up of tensile load applied to the stem during setting of the fastener.

    摘要: A feeder for headed fasteners, such as rivets (43), driven at equal intervals through a tape (44), is applicable to a riveting machine (10) and includes a plunger (25) advanced and retracted through a guide bush (29) and with a punch (37) at its leading end. When the plunger (25) advances the punch (37) is driven through a delivery passage in the guide bush head (39). A guide tube (45) leads the tape (44) to bring fasteners (43) in sequence into the rivet delivery passage (52). An actuator (56), oscillatable in the guide bush (39), is moved to retracted position by the advancing plunger (25), and is automatically returned to advanced position when the plunger (25) retracts. Fastener engaging means (64) on the actuator (56) act, with each retraction and advance of the actuator (56), to engage a fastener (43) and move it towards the delivery passage from which the leading fastener (43) is driven by the advancing punch (37) which, penetrating the tape (44) holds the tape (44) against movement while the actuator (56) is moved to its retracted position.

    摘要: A blind riveting tool has a front abutment provided by a pair of jaws which are spring-urged into their closed position and move to their open position by a generally pivoting movement of each jaws. The jaws are opened by means of a ball which is in contact with the outside of the rearward end of each jaw, the balls being encircled by a rotatable ring having cam faces in contact with the balls. When the ring is rotated, the cam faces force the balls inwards to press the rearward ends of the jaws together, thereby to make each jaw pivot and open the front end of the jaws.

    摘要: A rivet bucking tool (10) is provided with a damping piston (13) having a skirt (18) thereon and in which the shank (25) of a rivet bucking die (23) is freely removably received. This allows easy exchange of the dies (23) for piston recoil adaptation to rivets of different size and material. The area transformation between the shank (25) and the damping piston (13), the skirt (18) thereon, and the preferably airtight frictional fit of the skirt (18) around the shank (25) are utilized to convert bucking stress into vibration so as to reduce joint recoil of the damping piston (13) and die (23) during bucking. Vibration and recoil are absorbed in the tool housing (11) by compressed air in a damping chamber (42) wherein the pressure is selectively adjustable by a valve (28).
