摘要: A sliding member having a sliding surface comprising a silicon carbide sintered body having a primary phase comprising mainly silicon carbide, and a subphase having a different composition from the primary phase and containing at least boron, silicon and carbon. The ratio of pores having a roundness of 6 μm or less and a pore diameter of 10 to 60 μm with respect to all pores having a pore diameter of 10 μm or more in the sliding surface is 60% or more. This enables retention of good seal properties even in a long-term continuous use. The subphase in the silicon carbide sintered body is preferably granular crystal phases dotted among a plurality of the primary phases. This provides excellent lubricating liquid holding performance as well as excellent thermal conductivity and excellent thermal shock resistance properties.

摘要: Methods of reducing hydroxyl ions in concrete pore solutions are provided. Such methods are useful in providing resistance to gels which form in concrete due to the alkali-silica (ASR) reaction. The methods comprise adding a salt or mixture thereof to the concrete, in aqueous or solid form, the salt or salt mixture having cations higher in valence than the anions. The methods also comprise adding an acidic phosphate or a silicon-containing alkoxide to the concrete. The methods further comprise resisting and/or inhibiting ASR in airfield runway concrete pore solutions by applying a soluble salt or a mixture of soluble salts in solution or a deicing salt mixture in situ to the runway concrete. All of the above methods are useful in reducing hydroxyl ions in concrete. Such methods can be used to resist ASR in fresh concrete, in concrete that is setting, or in hardened concrete.

摘要: The hardenable mortar composition consists of a bonding agent component including a hydraulic bonding agent, such as cement, gypsum or mortar, and a paste-forming agent consisting of a liquid solvent inert with respect to the hydraulic bonding agent, and an aqueous component kept separate from the bonding agent component until the two components are mixed to form a hardened mortar composition. The aqueous component includes water and a hydrophobic adsorbent or absorbent. The hydrophobic adsorbent or absorbent is included in the aqueous component to avoid the emergence of the paste-forming agent, which is at the very least unsightly, when the aqueous component is mixed with the bonding agent component. The hydrophobic adsorbent or absorbent binds the paste-forming agent which would otherwise escape during mixing and remains as an inert additive in the setting mortar composition, without reducing the hardness thereof.

摘要: A cementitious blend composition and a concrete mix composition preferable for making concrete resistant to high temperatures and alkaline conditions, particularly for making durable concrete for constructing an alumina digester tank in an aluminum smelter. The cementitious blend composition includes at least one hydraulic cement, silica fume (SF), and natural pozzolan (NP), wherein a weight percent ratio of at least one hydraulic cement:SF:NP in the cementitious blend composition lies in the range of (24-63):(5-44):(32-40) with the sum of the weight percentages of the at least one hydraulic cement, the SF, and the NP not exceeding 100%. The concrete mix composition comprises water and the cementitious blend composition, wherein a weight ratio of the water to the cementitious blend composition is 0.2-0.5, and wherein the concrete mix composition has a content of the cementitious blend composition of 400-550 kg/m3.
