Disclosed herein are a solvent composition and methods of using the solvent composition. The solvent composition includes at least 80 wt. % of trans-1,2-dichloroetheylene (t-DCE), and 0.1 to 20 wt. % of at least one organic compound. The organic compound may be a hydrocarbon and/or an oxygenated solvent. The solvent composition may be used to clean a surface by contacting the surface with the composition to dissolve a contaminant on the surface. The composition may be used to remove a coating from a surface of a substrate by contacting the surface with the solvent composition to dissolve the coating and removing the composition containing the coating from the surface. The composition may also be used to deposit material on a substrate by dissolving the material in the solvent composition, applying the composition containing the material onto the substrate, and evaporating the composition from the substrate.

A process for dry cleaning fabrics comprising the steps of: (i) placing one or more fabrics to be cleaned in a device which provides heat and agitation; (ii) placing one or more carrier sheets in the device wherein the carrier sheets have about 200 grams of a liquid cleaning/refreshment composition releasably absorbed therein; (iii) heating the air within the device to at least about 130° F. (55° C.); and (iv) agitating the fabrics and the carrier sheets until at least about 40% by weight of the liquid cleaning/refreshment composition from the carrier sheets has been evaporated and vented from the device. There is further provided a kit for dry cleaning fabrics comprising: one or more carrier sheets; and from about 200 grams to about 1,000 grams of a liquid cleaning/refreshment composition, wherein the one or more carrier sheets can absorb at least about 200 grams of the liquid cleaning/refreshment composition.

The invention relates to an improved method for chemically cleaning textile, leather, or fur goods, wherein the goods to be cleaned are brought into contact with a cleaning agent, wherein the cleaning agent comprises at least one solvent, wherein according to the invention a cleaning agent is used comprising a compound of the general formula (I) as a solvent, wherein x is a whole number from 1 to 10 and R1, R2, R3, and R4 are selected independently of each other from H, a C1- to C22-alkyl radical or alkenyl radical, a polyalkylene oxide, a C3- to C6-cycloalkyl radical, a carbo- or heterocyclical C3- to C6-cycloalkenyl radical, and an aryl radical. The invention further relates to the use of a solvent having the general formula (I) for producing a cleaning agent for chemically cleaning textiles, leather, and fur goods, and a liquid cleaning agent for use in a method for chemically cleaning textile, leather, or fur goods, wherein the cleaning agent comprises a portion of a solvent having the general formula (I).
