摘要: A method of processing a non-real time service of a broadcast receiver, which receives and processes a service being transmitted in non-real time, and a broadcast receiver are disclosed. Herein, the method of processing a non-real time service in a broadcast receiver includes receiving in non-real time first signaling information including access information of a content item and second signaling information including detail information of the content item, receiving in non-real time a file belonging to the content item by accessing to a FLUTE session transmitting the content item, wherein the file corresponds to a compressed file that has one or more files including an entry file compressed therein, and decompressing the compressed file and then executing the content item referring to information on the entry file.

摘要: Discovering content on a device. Content stored on a device can be examined or searched based on the programming of channels that are available to the device. The content can be searched using other rules related to user preferences. Based on the results of the examination of the content, playlists are generated. Each playlist includes content from the device that matches or partially matches the content associated with one of the channels. Using the playlists, a user can load content from their device that has a theme consistent with a particular channel. The playlists can also be used to tune to the channels associated with the playlists and thereby discover the content on those channels.

摘要: A receiver in a digital broadcast system is provided for storing broadcast content files for on-demand playback purposes. The content files are transmitted in a partitioned format. Users can select which content files are to be captured in a memory device following reception. The receiver is operable to monitor the reception of content file segments and, when a selected on-demand content file has been completely received, to generate an alert message to notify a user that the content is available for retrieval from the memory device and playback via an output device.

摘要: Information providers act as sources of information consisting of a plurality of variable length messages and issue control packets, enabling/disabling packets and data packets. Each data receiver has a unique address as a permanent attribute. The enabling/disabling packets selectively enable or disable a specific data receiver or a specific group of data receivers. Therefore to avoid that the loss of the enabling/disabling packet leads to the loss of the corresponding whole set of packets, each data receiver stores data packets for later use in the re-establishment of the entire set of transmission packets. However, only data packets provided by any FRIEND information provider (i.e. information provider from which the data receiver is authorized to receive information on a selective basis) are managed by the data receiver. Then when, during a re-transmission, a enabling/disabling packet related to the information stored into the data receiver is received, such information is immediately made available to the user of the data receiver, without waiting for its complete re-transmission.

摘要: Near on-demand delivery of digital signals is accomplished by first dividing the signals into sequences of N numbered fragments, where the length of each fragment is equal to the broadcast time interval. The fragments are broadcast so that the first fragment is repeated every broadcast time interval, the second fragment is repeated every two time intervals, and so forth until the Nth fragment is repeated at least every Nth time interval. A fractal channel packing algorithm is preferably used to sequence the fragments over a plurality of channels to reduce the variability in peak bandwidth caused by fragmentation. The fragments are locally downloaded and stored during successive time intervals in response to a subscriber's request so that the first fragment is available within one time interval from the request, and the higher numbered fragments are available within their respective periods. The fragments are read out in order and integrated to seamlessly deliver the requested signal. As a result, the average bandwidth of the delivered signal increases only logarithmically, instead of linearly, as the broadcast time interval is reduced. If a portion of the delivered signal is pre-stored at the receiving site, the required broadcast bandwidth has a finite bound, regardless of how much the broadcast time interval is reduced.

摘要: The invention provides a method and apparatus for transmitting information recorded on information storage from a central server via a high data rate digital telecommunications network to subscribers connected to the network. The telecommunications network is capable of two-way communication. The central server includes a central communication interface connected to the network, a magazine containing a very large number of disks, disk players, a controller for transfer of the disks between the magazine and the disk players, a central computer, a memory for storing information relating to the locations of the disks, and a multiplexer. Each of the subscriber stations includes a communication interface connected to the network, a computing terminal, a demultiplexer, a data rate expansion circuit, a digital-to-analog converter, and a transducer for converting analog signals into humanly perceptible signals. In one example, the invention provides for the delivery to a subscriber of a personalized sound program selected from a large directory of available selections.
