    摘要： In a dust removing system, the level of influence of dust sticking to an objective lens of an optical head is detected from either an amount of light emitted from the optical head and reflected from an optical head or from an access time. Three stages of levels with regard to the degree of influence of the dust are set in accordance with such detection value, and a different message for the removal of dust is indicated on a display unit in response to the level of the influence. When the influence is low, a dust removing mechanism is automatically rendered operative to remove the dust. At the first level at which the influence of dust is low, the optical disk in the optical disk device is discharged and cleaning of the objective lens is performed, and an indication is provided on the display unit representing that cleaning is proceeding. When the second stage is detected, the optical disk in the optical disk device is discharged, and a message is indicated on the display unit representing that cleaning of the objective lens should be performed using a cleaning disk. When the third stage is detected, a message is indicated on the display unit representing that cleaning of the objective lens should be performed by manual operation.

    摘要： The surface of a slider for a magnetic recording head, a burnishing head, or a glide head includes a pair of rails that, in operation, face the magnetic recording medium to form air bearing surfaces. These air bearing surfaces have slots cut into them at the same prescribed angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the slider, and along a single straight line. This provides slots which are asymmetric about the longitudinal axis, causing the slider to fly nearer the recording medium and at almost constant height.

    摘要： An apparatus for cleaning disks includes an enclosed housing with an operable door therein adapted to permit access to the interior of the housing. A rack is removably mounted within the housing, and will retain a plurality of disks in parallel spaced-apart relation within a disk-retaining cradle within the housing. The disk-retaining cradle is operably mounted so as to rotate about an axis passing through the centers of all of the disks. A spray bar projects within the housing and through all of the central openings in each of the disks, and has a plurality of spray nozzles therein to spray fluid radially outwardly therefrom to cover all of the disks, as they rotate in the cradle. A method for cleaning disks includes the initial step of providing a housing with an operable door and a cradle therein adapted to rotate a plurality of disks. The disks to be cleaned are then loaded in a rack which retains the disks in parallel spaced-apart orientation, which is loaded in the cradle within the housing. A spray arm within the housing projects through the central openings of the disks as the disks are loaded within the housing. Once the door is shut, the cradle is operated so as to rotate, thereby rotating all of the disks. Fluid is then sprayed from the spray arm onto the disks as they rotate.

    摘要： An apparatus for cleaning electromagnetic tape wound onto dual reels of a tape cartridge is disclosed. A housing is provided having a pair of spindles rotatably supported thereon for receiving respective reels of a tape cartridge. A drive mechanism is drivingly connected to one of the spindles for causing the tape to be transferred from one reel to the other. A first absorbent pad is supported on the housing for wiping engagement with one side of the tape and a cleaner post carrier is supported on the housing for movement between a cleaning position adjacent the first pad and a loading position spaced from the first pad. The cleaner post has opposite first and second cleaner surfaces and is removably and reversably mounted on the carrier such that one surface faces the first pad. A cleaning fluid reservoir is mounted on the housing and in communication with at least the first pad.
