Abstract:
A layout instrument for constructing the two-dimensional sheet pattern which defines a cylindrical article having longitudinal elements of varying lengths, each of which are parallel to the axis of the cylinder, wherein an oblique plane passes through the cylinder and intersects the base plane thereof at an acute angle. The instrument comprises a calibrated miter scale having a series of equally spaced subdivisions which establish the length of the longest and shortest elements of the cylindrical article and a calibrated layout scale having a series of spaced points each of which establishes the length of one of a plurality of specific, circumferentially spaced elements of the cylindrical article.
Abstract:
A self-limiting shaped memory alloy device, including a shape memory alloy member, with first and second ends, a first anchor member connected to the first end, an energy contact, a second anchor member connected to the energy contact, an energy source connected in energetic communication to the energy contact, a moveable member connected to the second end, and a biasing member operationally connected to the moveable member for urging the moveable member towards and into physical contact with the second anchor member. The moveable member is in physical contact with the second anchor member and the second end is in energetic communication with the energy contact. Actuation of the energy source energizes the energy contact. Energization of the shape memory alloy member initiates a phase change that urges the moveable member away from the second anchor member. Movement of the moveable member away from the second anchor member disengages the second end from the energy contact.
Abstract:
Compositions comprising clay minerals and methods for their use in promoting hemostasis are provided. The compositions comprise clay minerals such as bentonite, and facilitate blood clotting when applied to a hemorrhaging wound. Electrospun or electrosprayed materials (e.g. bandages, micron beads, etc.) which include clay minerals, and methods for the treatment of acute hemorrhage, are also provided.
Abstract:
A method for utilizing an optical system for mapping brain function includes determining a time series of light intensity measurements for spatially distributed source and detector pairs, receiving light measurements over a period of time, and producing at least one map of a respective strength of each of a plurality of temporal correlations, wherein the temporal correlations are based on the time series of the spatially distributed source and detector pairs and the light measurements.
Abstract:
The application relates to disinfectant formulations comprising calcium hydroxide and sodium hypochlorite and further relates to a method of manufacturing the disinfectant formulations and methods of disinfecting an object using the disinfectant formulations.
