Abstract:
A new gene family involved in cell cycle regulation was discovered. This family has been termed activators of cyclin-dependent kinases (ACDKs). A number of ACDK genes have been cloned and sequenced. Proteins encoded by ACDK genes specifically were shown to interact with CDKs and pRb, and to upregulate the kinase activity of a CDK using pRb as a substrate. Progression of a cell through the cell cycle can be regulated by modulating ACDK expression in the cell.
Abstract:
Operators and plant computer programs used to operate a complex process facility are aided in managing the process during transitions by a computer-based apparatus. The apparatus incorporates a knowledge base and methods for identifying modes and transitions during plant operation. At frequent intervals, measured values of the process variables are used to evaluate the current state of the process and its sections and subsections. The identified state of the plant is broadcast to different clients of this application. The apparatus monitors the plant for the normal execution of the transition. It also identifies the current task being performed in the process and sends this message to different sections of the plant. The results are displayed on a visual display device and can also be sent to other plant computer programs for guidance during the transition. A permanent chronological record of the sequence of events—modes and transitions—of the plant and sections and subsections including the pertinent plant conditions and information is also generated by the apparatus for subsequent review and analysis. Methods for generating the knowledge base are also presented.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an improved process for the synthesis of enantiomerically pure 3-phenyl-3-hydroxypropylamine of formula I; more particularly the present invention relates to the said process using styrene; the synthetic strategy features a Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation (SAD) route to the target compound, using styrene, a readily accessible starting material gives the optically pure dihydroxy compound (ee >97%; the selective monotosylation of primary alcohol, nucleophilic displacement by cyano and subsequent reduction to amino group furnishes the desired 3-phenyl-3-hydroxypropylamine in enatiomerically pure form, a key intermediate in the synthesis of variety of oxetine related anti-depressant drugs.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method, system and computer program product for enabling the remote authentication of fingerprints over an insecure network using a client-server architecture by generation of a set of random queries relating to fingerprint patterns based on stored fingerprint data at the server, to which the client responds based on the observed fingerprint patterns, followed by the issuing of a randomly generates set of challenges pertaining to geometrical relationships between the fingerprint patterns for which confirm responses are received by their server, the final authentication being determined by the proportion of correct responses by the client to said challenges.
Abstract:
A system for sorting randomly positioned, irregularly shaped scrap metal particles on a moving conveyor employs laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), and includes an image detector for locating the particles as they path through a predefined viewing area, a position detector for detecting movement of the conveyor, a laser system for providing laser pulses, a scanner assembly for directing the pulses to selected locations within a target area, a light collector, a light distribution and spectral analyzer for isolating and measuring at least one selected band from the collected light, a separator, and suitable logic for identifying the particles, monitoring their position, monitoring the output of the laser and, operating the scanner assembly to direct the pulses to the identified particle. The spectral data is then analyzed, each particle is categorized, and thereafter sorted.
Abstract:
Particular types of distortion within a lithographic system may be characterized by linewidth control parameters. Linewidth control parameters of any given line or feature within a printed pattern vary as a result of optical capabilities of the lithography apparatus used, particular characteristics of the reticle, focus setting, light dose fluctuations, etc. The instant invention uses focus offset coefficients to change the focus at points within a slot to compensate for the linewidth control parameter variations introduced by the factors contributing to such variations. Additionally, different focuses can be set dynamically along the scan for a particular slot point. A set, or sets, of focus offset coefficients is generated for a particular lithography apparatus, depending on the number of linewidth control parameters for which correction is desired.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a single pot process for the preparation of metal picolinates useful as dietary supplement from alpha picoline, said process comprising hydrosulphonation of alpha picoline with sulphuric acid; heating the reaction mixture thus obtained between the range of 150° to 210° C. followed by oxidation with any suitable oxidizing agent to obtain alpha picolinic acid sulphate, and treating the thus obtained alpha picolinic acid sulphate with a metal salt solution to obtain corresponding metal picolinate.
Abstract:
A method for data embedding in a digital image under the constraint of a pre-specified upper bound value on the amount of change in the value of a property associated with the image. For compression tolerant data hiding in digital images, a property is selected in which the required information can be embedded. The property should be such that the value obtained from the property before and after a lossy compression does not change by a significant amount, and the change should be bounded. The property should be such that a property value as obtained from the image will not vary due to compression, but only due to malicious tampering. The value obtained from the property is stored so that the image can be verified. The complete image is considered in deciding whether to increase or decrease the property value in a particular region. The method also takes into account the fact that blocks having values of 0 or L, corresponding to the minimum and maximum property values, respectively, are incapable of change in a particular region. The method also attempts to vary even the checksum (stored information), in addition to modifying the image so that the net resultant checksum and the modified image coincide with each other.
Abstract:
A crossbar is implemented within multimedia facilities of a processor to perform vector permute operations, in which the bytes of a source operand are reordered in the target output. The crossbar is then reused for other instructions requiring multiplexing or shifting operations, particularly those in which the size of additional multiplexers or the size and delay of a barrel shifter is significant. A wide shift operation, for example, may be performed with one cycle latency by the crossbar and one additional layer of multiplexers or a small barrel shifter. The crossbar facility thus gets reused with improved performance of the instructions now sharing the crossbar and a reduction in the total area required by a multimedia facility within a processor.
